Travel tips for PWDs

Flew twice this week and neither of the TSA body scanners picked up my Pod or G7. They’ve show up without fail in the past. I wonder if they recently adjusted thresholds or something.

FWIW, I put a dog tag from Red Dingo on my carry on with my med supplies. It also has my MedicAlert # and contact info in case I can’t speak for myself. The dog tag has worked on 2 flights so far and quickly ended a discussion with a B stew when the A stew saw the icon and stepped in. Medical Device - no discussion. The other aspect I hope I never need .

The scanners still show them but the TSA guys now know what they are. The G7 is just a blob on the arm but the Omnipod has quite a lot of internal structure which is obvious and very easy to recognise.

I’m TSA pre and neither (or the G6 for that matter) have ever triggered the metal detector. I travelled to and from LGA over the election and didn’t have any problems despite the massively increased security.

The body scanners show everything (to everyone, based on my prior observation of the body scanner displays observed from another line!) The things we D’s where don’t show up in the metal scanners but the things others wear do; it’s a matter of choice.
