Absolutely, taking a break from needles and being able to graze your way through a day without a ton of injections are certainly helpful benefits from a pump.

I love the old-school stuff. I especially love it when young people do it.

That way, the art won’t die.

Me too.

Recently started Contol-IQ and we’re finally getting along. Had to learn some new tricks to tweak settings, and understand what influences the insulin flow.

Share with the class. I need to learn before I get my X2.

But when you use Control IQ it makes you turn on the carbs setting I saw. Doesn’t that mean you have to enter carbs?

Sort of. On the carb wizard screen you can just touch the top and input the insulin units. So on that screen you just bypass the wizard.

I do this most of the time, since I base bolus amount on carb+protein, and adjust based on iob and past/planned activity level.

I have learned that over-bolusing can work well to, since CIQ will decrease basal if needed. So portion of bolus basically acts like basal.

Best way to learn is trial and error AFTER you are up and running.

Understanding how and when CIQ makes changes FOR YOU is best observed first, then ask for help when something isn’t working as you expect.

I found this article helpful.

You can also download tandem X2 simulator app and explore the settings.
