Thanks for that! And I did forget that Aldosterone was low and that must be why, coupled with renin being low, he prescribed Fludrocortisone. And I have expressed to him via Mychart that I hope he will be looking into all parts of whatever is going on. I will give it my all to get the care I deserve and then ultimately live as best I can, despite the system, if necessary. I believe there are thyroid things going on as well and this surely should be his purview. Thanks again!
Joslin Clinic is top-tier, so you are in good hands. Metformin can help, but for me, besides the meds, one small habit made the biggest difference in my A1C. I stumbled upon this article about the importance of post-meal walks a while back and started taking a short walk right after dinner. The results showed up quickly on my sensor. Try this and see if it helps you stabilize the numbers, especially since we are both adjusting our routines here in Boston.
Thanks @Manosphou - great suggestion.
It’s been quite a while since I made this post, so I thought I should update on this. I started taking metformin 500 mg daily and it did a number on my digestion - extreme constipation. I was not a happy camper, as we used to say. It did give me better control and higher insulin sensitivity, but at too high a cost for me.
I suppose the next step in this particular pharmaceutical adventure should be occasional metformin use, as I think i can sidestep the digestive issues and may get some benefit in terms of control. I haven’t done that - i just stopped the metformin.
So once more, thanks for bringing this up.
Was it regular or extended release? Some have less gastric distress with ER.
I’ll chime in with my successful foray into Metformin use…I take 500 mg extended release daily with breakfast, started a few months ago. It has seemingly reduced my total insulin daily dose (TDD) by 10 to 15%. For the first few weeks I had terrible diarrhea, weight loss and TDD reduced by about 30% plus. After a few weeks things stabilized, my gut got used to it and I settled into a routine. Also did not put the 10 pounds back on! I tried a second 500mg dose with dinner but it restarted me on the diarrhea, so I went back to 500 mg daily with breakfast.
Lovin it lately, time will tell how it works long term.
Interesting thought on use of Metformin. I was on it when first dx’d T2, upped the dose and added glyburide then glymeperide when I went on Medicare (their mandate, not my docs or mine). I was taken off Metformin when dx’d T1 by my first Endo. I’ll put on my list of topics to bring up with my current Endo at next appointment!
Mine was regular release. I’ll ask my endo for extended release. Thanks Carlos…
