Running a marathon! :D

Lots of fun accomplishments! I think I’ll be going to bed by 8 tonight. My long run today got me sore and mentally drained. Worth it for a PR on 13.1 and for the farthest distance I’ve gone yet (14)!

Workouts are not just physical. They are also mental.

And while all workouts are important, some of them are the kind that will stay with you and give you more mental strength than any physical benefit.

Remember this day @LarissaW. Remember what you were thinking about it yesterday.

Today was worth a hundred easy runs.

Bad to the Bone
by George Thorogood Me!!

On the day she started training
FUD all gathered 'round
And they gazed in wide wonder
At the joy they had found

Then her coach spoke up
When he hung up the phone
He could tell right away
That she was bad to the bone

Bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

She’ll run a thousand miles
A thousand more than you
She’ll run a thousand more, baby
Before she is through

Keep going little lady
You won’t be alone
I’m here to tell ya honey
That you’re bad to the bone

Bad to the bone
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

I know what it’s like
I know how you feel
You finished your reps
'Cuz you’re the real deal

Keep going little lady
You won’t be alone
I’m here to tell ya honey
That you’re bad to the bone

B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

[INSTRUMENTAL]

And when she runs the streets
Kings and Queens step aside
Everyone she passes
They all stay wide-eyed

Keep going little lady
You won’t be alone
I’m here to tell ya honey
That you’re bad to the bone

Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad

Great day!! Super easy, right? Awesome work today!
:+1:

BTW, today was a great day for me too. We had a payment contract for the coaching.

And today I got a special package in the mail…

This was exciting for me because I was paid today, and that means I am now officially a professional coach! :grinning:

Payment received and now 1/3 eaten.

Thanks for the tasty goodness!
:yum:

:roll_eyes:you saw my RPE! Are you just making fun of me now???

O I hadn’t intended those as the official payment! Those were just serving as superior stuffing for everything else in the package. Have you tried the cupcakes ? Those are my favorites

Yes, I had one! Was very delicious!

Yeah I saw it. It wasn’t really 15. :grinning:

That’s a solid run all the way around. Money in the bank!

Today is a cool milestone, Larissa…

Whenever I am running a hard workout, the halfway point is always a good mental mark. I tell myself, “I did it once, just do it one more time.”

Or a lot of times I think through the idea that as soon as I take the first step after the halfway mark, I am more than halfway done.

If you are going on a long trip, once you get to the half point, it makes no sense to turn back. The destination is now closer than the origin.

Today marks halfway on the training calendar! Congrats on what you have done so far! You are now closer to the end than the beginning.

Seems like just yesterday when you started, right?

We’ll give it a shot

Woah, we’re halfway there
Woah, livin’ on a prayer

Take my hand, we’ll make it I swear

Ooo. Some crazy stuff. It’s a lot to wrap my mind around. I feel like I did just start yesterday, but then again I feel like I’ve been training for years.

Similarly it feels like the race is right around the corner but also like I’ve got a ton of work to do before then. No sense in turning back now! But there’s an intimidating amount of running left to do. And I’ll do it and I trust myself in that, but it may not be pretty getting this next half done

Half way there half way there just do it one more time

Got my preloaded syringes all loaded up and ready to go. Thank you @Eric for the idea of painting the bottoms of them with nail polish to differentiate the amounts. Last time the pen I used had rubbed off but this nail polish won’t :+1:

These are in case I’m on a run and my pump fails (knock on wood…)

I like this type of prep! Great job here! I am a big fan of syringes for this.

Looks like you are using your diluent/insulin mix at 20%. :+1:

I can suggest also adding a 1/2 unit of the normal insulin, so you would also have a 0.5u dose available, if that is an amount you think might be useful to have. It gives you broader coverage.

For nostalgia, here is what my setup looked like before I had a pump. With a pump now, I only carry 5 syringes. But before a pump I carried 15, with various amounts from 0.075 to 1.0 units. :astonished:

OMG!!

Larissa had a very special “training run” today! A dress rehearsal for the main event.

The tiny little emoji faces won’t do it justice, so I gotta post this one.

Larissa, you were a beast today! Congrats on what you did! Outfrickinstanding today! Super proud of your day!

Can’t wait to see you post your pictures! But before you post them, I got some video of you in your training race, and I am gonna post it first. Here it is!

Aw thank you @Eric and @T1Allison!!!

Today was quite the day, and I wish I had enough energy to sound as excited as Eric because I’m actually super happy and proud with how I did with my half marathon (which was a good practice for the marathon)!!

Here’s some pictures :hugs:

My mom and I at the start. It was 22 degrees !!!

Me finishing (UNDER 2 HOURS!!!) also you can tell just how small of a race it was. I really enjoyed that it wasn’t super crowded

Me with the metal on the way home.

Getting under two hours was a huge deal for me. It felt like this big barrier. Breaking two hours today I finished almost 12 minutes faster than my last half marathon in November!!! That’s an increase in pace of >50sec/mile (did I get that right @Eric??)

Later I’ll write up some of the things from this practice. Big takeaway at this very moment is running is definitely mentally tough as well

Very happy with today! As always thank you Eric for your time and help and endless dedication (and waking up before noon on a weekend for a pump up text!)

Wow, congratulations, @LarissaW!! Fantastic race and time!!! I bet you were hot by the end of the race at that speed, even if it was below freezing!!:running_woman: :medal_sports:

@LarissaW, how are you feeling today? How are your legs?

BTW, enjoy your recovery days!

Yeah, think about the difference between a 10:00 pace and a 9:10 pace. That is a huge difference for 13.1 miles!

Legs are a little stiff, but they’re ok! They were much worse after the Philly half marathon in Nov.
I did the Epsom salt bath again tonight. I don’t know if it really does anything for me, but it smells nice :+1:

I sure am enjoying my recovery days!! I’d forgotten what sleeping in feels like and it sure is nice

Everyone!!! I had my long run today (15mi) and didn’t have any lows or highs! Kept my BGs between 85 and 123, which I’m super happy about.

I starting running at 1pm and hadn’t eaten in ~18hours so pretty much no crazy IOB which I think made it easier. I also ran my basal at 20% for the first 7.5mi then dropped to 10% for the second 7.5mi. Having been fasted I didn’t need as much basal as normal, and this basal worked as a feeding basal so I was able to take in about 70g throughout the run.

It was cool to be able to keep my BGs in a nice range, but it was definitely tougher to run on an empty stomach. Good to know this moving forward :+1:

O and how’s this for throwing down crazy miles on a Monday, @Eric :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
