Increase in prevalence of Type 1 diabetes: why?

I suspect that there would be a correlation between Type 1 diabetics living long enough to reproduce and pass on their genes and the increase of which you speak.

That was my first idea too! But I read accounts that mentioned researchers have modeled that and it cannot account for the increase. I did not read the research myself so I have no links.
