No, he does not have the same issue. He has a stash of old pods like me. So he offered to send them to me if my situation does not resolve!
So with my stash and his stash, there are about 20 months worth of old pods to use.

If you do get around to this, I’d be curious what sort of info you include in your appeal. My current insurance has only ever covered Humalog, and I never thought to fight them on it. But since Novolog is supposed to work better for pumps, I’d be interested in maybe joining that fight for myself.
Insurance is exhausting. I’m sorry you’re dealing with all this junk!
I will let you know. I will get to it at some point. Just don’t have the energy to be annoyed by them any more right now!
@Eric, I also have a large stash of Eros pods if you need them. I have 2 RileyLinks but I’m not sure if they are in working order as I’ve not used them in more than a year. Of course, the Eros pods are probably all expired now but I’ve used expired pods without any issue.
Hi @Trying,
I would love a spare RileyLink!
I got my rechargeable one working. I am keeping it plugged in all the time now!
And don’t throw the pods away! Yes, I might need them!
I am currently on my 3rd expired pod. So far they have all worked great!
The one thing I had to get used to is that it takes longer for the commands to get translated from phone to RileyLink to pod, and then the response back the other way. I do a bolus and have to wait, and after a few moments it finally comes back to my phone showing that it is working.
Anyway, I would love a spare RileyLink, and might need the pods. I have 8 months, but that’s all I have.
Thanks!
I think between everyone here, you’ll have years worth of Eros PODS.
Yes, the pods are in their original box under my desk! Will save them. Just checked the RileyLinks. I don’t think they are working. One is cracked, and neither will charge
I had forgotten the time delay in communicating via the link. I hated carrying around the extra device, tiny as it was!
If you don’t mind, can you send me one of the RileyLinks? I wouldn’t mind messing with it and trying to fix it.
No harm in trying. If it’s broken, and I am unable to fix it, it will still be broken.
The rechargeable ones have an internal battery which I may be able to get a new one. And I’d like to try and switch it over to use normal replaceable batteries.
Sure, dm me where to send it.
@Eric I think there’s a Facebook group for folks with Riley or Orange links. You may want to look that/those up. There’s also getrileylink.org for other references.
I looked there. They are selling the orange ones for $185.
As I mentioned, I have been trying to not waste any insulin, since UnitedCrapcare won’t cover Novolog.
I ran this pod down to 1 unit, with only 35 minutes left on the pod.
Can’t cut it much closer than this!
@Eric I actually find most pods have between 3-9 units left in them when the app reports 0. I thought this was common to most folks; am I an oddity? BTW, learned this by inadvertently running a pod overtime after changing them when they got reportedly low for several months!
Yes, there is always some “extra” left over. Actually, I think there is a post on FUD about it somewhere.
But even if there are a few spare units left, it’s just not common for me to run it all the way down to where it says only 1 unit in there!
Yes I’ve run some down to empty during the 8 hour grace period after expiration. The pod keeps putting out units until it finally screeches when empty. Seems like a minimum of 3 “extra” units are in the pod (“extra” meaning more than reported by the app) but it varies.
I found the post that I think first reported the “extra”, from way back in 2017!
@Eric Thanks for finding this! I should have looked for it, but didn’t. Great info! You were right to warn of the sometimes low reserve amount; I know one time I was relying on it because we were unexpectedly out and about! Sure enough, my wife goes “Is that your pod screaming?” I hadn’t heard it because the tinnitus in my left ear is about the same frequency; I diverted home because I didn’t have insulin, let alone a spare pod with me. C’est la, lesson learned!
I saw on FB that others on UHC were able to get the Dash pods directly from Insulet. UHC and Insulet have some sort of arrangement allowing Insulet to provide Dash pods to UHC customers under the DME coverage. Maybe give Insulet a call.
Hi @Trying!
Thanks!
I did call Insulet and discussed it with them.
Yes, Insulet will sell me the pods. But UHC will pay 0% of that. I would basically be buying them at full cost from Insulet.
Oh, gosh, it sounds like on FB others on UHC with Optum were able to get their Dash pods covered with DME coverage. I guess it depends on the insurance plan. That is incredible that an insurance company would not cover them!
