I think the ones with cinnamon don’t raise your blood sugar as much. ![]()
Just kidding!

Aren’t they a cure?
Silly me, I thought it was the blueberry cake donuts. Fresh hot cafe du monde beignets are to die for ![]()
Spent a week in Nola a couple years ago, café du mode was my favorite. Something about the crisp outer layer.

Only if you ask for EXTRA cinnamon-amon-amon….
@jim26 I would agree with you, there’s something about a piping hot beignet and a fresh cup of chicory coffee in the morning. Nom nom nom!
I’ve been to NOLA, but have to admit I never understood the love some folks have for beignets! My wife raves about them, Cafe Du Monde or others. That said, I love a good chocolate warm but iced cake or raised donut (it needs to be almost fluid, not the hard pretend chocolate)! I used to work in a large office and took in donuts for weekend workers. One day, one of the folks caught me walking out of the room and warned me the last chocolate iced donut might not be there when I got back. I didn’t miss a step…I picked it up, licked across the top of it and said, “Oh, I think it will be here!” The look on all the faces was priceless!! And…the donut was there and tasted great on my return! Of course I don’t know that someone else didn’t do what I’d done either!
Too funny! Marking your territory! That’s bloody awesome @TomH !
Sounds reasonable. Most donuts, muffins, and bagels are far larger than they used to be.
I saw a frosted snack cake that was 850 calories.

Last night I drank a cup of a magical Mexican potion, té de canela, It was delicious and I am now cured of diabetes. Té de canela is a tea made by steeping cinnamon sticks. And cinnamon cures diabetes, right.
The sad news
is no it did not. It was sweetened with sugar or honey. I did not bolus for it and drank it on my way home from church. My BG waS 110mg/dl before and 147 when I got home.
In the winter I sometimes make a special mix of tea, honey, a dash of lemon, cinnamon, and a little splash of Fireball which is a spicy cinnamon whiskey.
It’s the same idea, but the little bit of whiskey makes you not care as much if your BG spikes.

I always say…in months and years ahead, you won’t remember the spike, but you will remember the good times.
You might try the”Ring of Fire”
Probable won’t care about much of anything.

More evidence that @TomH is part cat!
On the fairly rare occasions I feel the need for a doughnut these days, I have found an easy way to do it, by essentially replacing another meal. My barber used to have a box of donuts on Saturdays, so if he had a maple or chocolate frosted (my personal favorites), I would grab one on the way out and eat it for lunch after normal insulin dose. If you compare macronutrient nutrition for a maple donut to a peanut butter sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread, you’ll see the main differences are less fiber, less fat, less protein. Carb/fat/protein, donut: 35/11/4; sandwich: 33/19/14. So a pretty direct replacement if you grab, say, some nuts with the donut. Obviously lower in nutrients, but you don’t do it every day, right?
My wife was born and raised in Uptown New Orleans, and has lots of family there. So when we would visit and she needs the beignet fix I will do the same, heading there with her early before breakfast and dosing for a larger than normal breakfast. And then you’re in the French quarter, what could be better?
