Haven’t seen this in about 4 years

@Liam-M had 3 donuts earlier and once he started going up he kept bolusing but it didn’t stop going up. Come to find out, his playing in the water yesterday made the tape very loose around it and although i added more tape at his request, I think the cannula came out.

Anyhoo, fresh POD (“if in doubt, change it out), and we’re in waiting cycle now… and staying hydrated.

Came down as expected, once POD was changed out. Testament to the true motto…” If in doubt, change it out.”

That came down nicely

Anytime Liam doesn’t stop rising, changing out the POD usually fixes it quickly.

Here’s the full post HIGH pic.

Let’s ask the real question! Is Liam sharing???

Right. I do wonder as adults if our insulin resistance with high BG is much more than kids. I swear at those levels I might as well be on an IV drip and my bg will not budge.

I don’t recall those issues as much when I was younger.

His mother gets Dunkin’ Donuts once a month or so (3 big boxes of all types of flavors). They all get donut drunk for a day or two.

Everything worked out OK. High for about 3 hours, but soft landing and now you can barely see the remnants of it. As has been said here before…he won’t remember the HIGH’s, but he’ll sure remember the yummy donuts.

I was hospitalized twice between the ages of 10-14 for DKA. I remember that time real well :expressionless:

@ClaudnDaye

My dad would never have let me have 3 donuts let along one unless the pee pill turned blue. That’s probably why I became the candy store kid at school. candy store kids do get to enjoy a trip or two to the hospital

Liam’s last graph looks amazing. I am purely envious :+1:

You should avoid donuts, they are the worst thing for a diabetic. Anything with high carbs AND high fat will cause BG problems.

Donuts are delicious so we probably won’t be doing that. As with everything else, I’ve found moderation to be the key. Some of the greatest joys al of life, food wise, aren’t healthy but boy do they taste great and make to feel good and increase the quality of life.

With my T1D son, I don’t restrict him any more than I restrict my other kids on what they can and can’t eat. My job is to learn how to Bolus for all foods.

Also, welcome @petesteve !

French fries, fried rice, fry-bread.

I just avoid the staples (rice, grains, casava, manioc etc); fried or not.

The weird one, though, is pizza. Well, ok, technically it should not be fried but if you put enough oil on something and cook it what is the difference?

I have to admit I’ve not done a donut in many a year, but I’ve certainly done crisps (US “chips”) many times. I find it comparable to ice cream (the US variety, the UK variety is pig fat mixed with sugar.)

What I’m finding these days is that I can binge once in a while and be sort-of ok and these days that’s enough for me. Just don’t offer me cheese.

I would only go so far as to say it’s a challenge to learn how to dose for that. Not impossible in my body.

It’s a challenge, which is why many decide it’s not worth it. I’ve always loved a good challenge!

A real challenge was finding out how much I had to dose for a taro donut!!! And the topping matters!!! Amy’s vegan pizza, no biggy, but pizza with vegan cheese on it was the worse……………….. hours later and I still need corrections!

Well, it depends. There are some apple cider donuts from an orchard back where I grew up that I used to have once a year when I visited. Since becoming T1D I have been skipping them while my friends indulged, which was depressing. Last trip back I had a hit of Afrezza and was able to have two donuts with no issues. Now, they’re small and relatively simple as donuts go, but it worked out. Wouldn’t make a regular thing of it, but it’s achievable.

The donuts themselves, with coffee and fresh hot cider. On the right is apple pie slathered in cheese, which I do skip.

I will occasionally eat French fries ( called chips in UK), but not more than four. If I go down Main Street to the breakfast place I ask them to go light on the fried taters.
