@Eric … I need a food lecture. Please. I’m a walking case of nutrition disaster. Today I could just feel all my bad food choices with every step. I’m doing fine during the day, and then the evening sets in, and my common sense, self-respect, and self-control all clock out. I still have my nutrition book… can you point me to the chapter where they talk people off the ledge??

How is your weight doing? How much have you gained in the past 3 weeks since your surgery?

Probably ~5 lbs. Definitely somewhere between 4 and 12. I feel gross. I’m eating because of stress stuff, and all of my old tricks aren’t working. I know how to end the cycle, but the things I’ve always done just aren’t having the same effect. It’s not even that it’s all terrible food, it’s just not because of hunger.

Annnnndd I think it’s why my bellybutton hurts. Just in case you needed a little TMI context. I think al the sugar is leaving me bloated and jiggly when I run, and it’s adding to the strain.

I just want to make it stop. It’s a carb-fest, but, worse, it’s also just a candy corn/pumpkin fest. And there are kids coming over today and there will be cupcakes and I want it to stop before the full moon tonight when I’m alone with them. Alone with the cupcakes… not the kids.

Wear a swimsuit when you eat. Two piece.

I’ve tried that. Only works if you open your eyes.

Try your 8 miles tomorrow.

At first, focus on simply reducing some of the fat content from your diet. Then work on the other stuff.

Once you get back into a full running cycle, the eating will get better.

Okay.

And cupcakes have fat, right?

outdoor 8 miles

Very crappy BG this morning. No sensors, a million things going on, thought I was good. Looked down and found a 300 right as I was getting ready to head out the door. Did one unit pump bolus and walked half mile to start. Blah.

Oh, and I ate the cupcakes last night. Not all of them, but I didn’t leave any witnesses to say just how many.

Starting bg: 267
Mi 1 266
Mi 2 285
*1 unit
Mi 3 274
Mi 4 245
*1 unit
Mi 5 233
Mi 6 201
Mi 7 177
Mi 8 165 and done
Walk 1.5 miles
Mi 9.5 159

RPE 6-6.5 (tried to do 3 mi @ 9, 3 @ 8:45, and 2 @ 8:30–last 2 were a little slower)
Run Time 1:10:27

There’s no way I was getting insulin…

So I’ve decided not to register for the nov. 3rd race. It’s a 6+ hour drive, and… that’s just silly. I still plan on running on the 24th, but now I’m thinking I maybe could find something after that for a more competitive pace kind of thing? @Eric? You around?

Yes.

Glad you are bailing on Nov 3rd. You are not set up properly for that. Too much down time.

Give me your planned races and we’ll build on that.

Still haven’t registered, but I am doing a nov. 24th race… but maybe that’s not my real one?? Are there races in December? Or is that just dumb?

I could also just get my mind wrapped around nov. 24th… and stop telling myself it’s not real. :woman_shrugging:

There are races all the time. It’s not dumb.

I’m not sure I understand that. Why is it not real?

That’s a decent enough time to get it all back together. 5 weeks. Just building up volume between now and then. If you want to run it, I can make it real.

I want to run it.

I did 8 miles today and was sucking air a little bit. I genuinely felt fine for most of it, but the hills were kind of killer. I did think more than a few times that 5.1 more miles was going to be tough. :grimacing:

Well, hopefully you won’t be starting at 200+ BG.

Next time, try 1/2 to 1 unit of IV and wait 30-60 minutes.

If you are over 160, you’ve got no fueling.

I would’ve done IV, but I was actually a wee bit nervous today. I’ve been taking ibuprofen and can see a little bit of some bleeding stuff going on. I always see this with ibuprofen. So I actually stopped the ibuprofen 2 days ago but was still nervous about doing IV while it’s still in my blood. Anything real about that concern? Or is that just a big mix of things that don’t really work that way?

I even thought about doing Afrezza… but just couldn’t bring myself to right before a run. :woman_shrugging:

I don’t think it’s a legitimate risk. It can slow clotting, but if you are doing proper technique, it’s okay. Hold the swab on the spot for a few minutes.

The nice thing about IV is the quick exit. If you wait 30-60, it’s all gone.

Okay. I’ll do that next time. I thought I was really pushing it just with that full unit bolus before heading out, but that barely even chipped at it.

I think the IV is safer. It’s out of your system faster. No IOB.
