so i would (with my Medtronic Pump) a 150% basal rate?
That sounds good. You just replace some of the lost basal, not all of it.
But hopefully you will get to swim. Trying it in less-than-perfect circumstances is a great way to learn!
OKAY, here goes: my BGs refuse to come up. DAMN IT. i have been off my pump for 1 hour and 45 minutes. i even ate some cheese and some peanut butter. Nothing. so its almost 2 hours off my pump ( 0% basal ).
so now, if i understand correctly, i have been off my pump more than just the hour that you used as an example. would i do a 2 HOUR TB OF 150%?
set the TB for 150% for 2 hours. going to get myself some more yogurt at the market. i am absolutely starving. need to fuel up today for tomorrows swim
.
thanks eric. hope it all works out well. feeling very frustrated. bummed out.
Sorry I was late to respond!
Yeah, if you were off for 2 hours, doing a 150% for 2 hours should bring you close to where you want to be.
You can do it that way, up to a point, and then it becomes easier to just do a replacement bolus instead. Like if it was 3 hours, I would not want to bump up basal for another 3 hours, I would just do a single replacement as a bolus instead. Hope that makes sense.
But anyway, 2 hours at 150% should be okay.
BTW, what was the highest it came up to after 2 hours?
I bolused to eat at 3pm, and my BG was 122. that was 3 hours after turning my pump off.
now i am just waiting to see how i responded to the 150% TB. (i was thinking that it might have been easier to just bolus for 1/2 the missed units. but then i might have crashed from getting a straight-out bolus all at once. ??? food for thought (yes, pun intended
).
eric, i just tested 2.5 hours post meal. this is after the 150% TB had ended. from 122 pre-meal, i spiked to 221 post.
i am guessing that this is b/c of the lack of basal i had been missing for those 2 hours???
i did a correction with a syringe, and detached from my pump and bloused the 1 unit so that the pump could show me how much IOB i was dealing with. (pretty clever of me, huh? )
will this level out? its just been one of those days, ya know?
first i couldn’t get my sugars up, now i have to bring them down. i hate the D roller coasters.
Hey DM. Just got finished with my beat down. I’ll go through your posts a bit more after I recover.
Cutting basal and then not exercising kinda screwed you up today. That’s a tough one. I do know how that zero basal can mess with things.
Hey, that’s a great trick! You are a clever one!
Nice!
thanks for the vote of confidences today. its funny though, b/c when i was giving myself a shot i remembered your post about the length of the needles. i was rumaging through every D supply i have on hand, and all i had were those darned 4mm syringes. then i started obsessing about whether or not it would work. why on earth do i only have these incredibly short syringes?
Hey!! I sent you 200 8mm syringes!!! Use one of them!
i cant find them. all i can find are the 6mm 1/2 units you sent me. i’ll keep looking i’ll go and look for them right away. they MUST be in there somewhere.
i found the ones that you sent me that have the 1/2 unit markings on them; they are 6mm.
BUT i did find an entire box of 8mm ones that are from my pharmacy. they were on the bottom of the pile.
in the future, i’ll know which ones to use. i can be a real scatter brain sometimes.
OMG!!! youre 100% right !!!
i found them. boxes of bags of them !!! you’re an angel. today was one hell of a day for me, huh? and my husband isnt home this w/end so i am kind of off my rocker to begin with.
i think i’ll use one of them just for the heck of it; i’ll fill it with chocolate milk.
30 units, BD brand, 31 gauge, 8mm needle length, 2 boxes of 10 packs each, 10 syringes per pack. In a cardboard box with a postmark from Georgia…
Those are the ones from me, not the pharmacy! ![]()

Glad you found them!
If you want quick delivery, try one of those in the back of your calf.
