Are you still taking long-acting insulin?
You don’t need a pump to start diving into things like figuring out what your ratios are, or testing your basal rates, at least estimating (since they might change on the pump) and learning how to test these things (as they will change over time).
Some of the books mentioned in this thread would help. I think knowing that stuff would make the transition to the pump far easier, more so than fiddling with the pump before you have training.
