Medicare Dexcom restrictions

Here’s the official statement from medicare. It states that the use of phones and share/follow will no longer be prohibited, under the theory that if a receiver is the DME, adding a second bluetooth device such as a phone does not cause the receiver to no longer be DME. Thus sensors can still be covered as supplies for the DME. The new policy is not yet in effect: “The Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractors will issue a revised policy article in the near future, at which time the published change will be effective.”

Presumably this means that a pump such as the t:slim X2 could be used as a second device; we’ll have to wait until the official policy comes out to see. Maybe they will allow a pump-only system since the pump is DME. But from the current statement I don’t think they will allow a phone-only system. In any case, the receiver is useful for restarting the sensor and/or transmitter with the “microwave technique.”… http://seemycgm.com/2018/06/11/restarting-g6-sensors-and-transmitter/
