How much should basals on the pump account for?

I recently heard they should account for 50%!

Some endos and CDEs believe you should have 50% basal, others 40% and I don’t understand why. We’ve had discussions about this idea before:

My CDE also believes there is some kind of ideal basal/bolus ratio, though not 50/50 I think, rather 40/60 or something like that. I don’t understand where this idea comes from. Does my carb intake affect my basal needs? I eat ridiculous amounts of carbs and let’s say I reduced my carb intake by half, thereby drastically lowering the daily amount of bolus insulin, that would change my basal/bolus ratio too, right? I fail to see why it should not change and why a different ratio would be bad.
