I’ve read some of this discussion and have to admit to not understanding the differences between the main posters and what I have considered “normal” (if that exists!). If I started exercising, even just walking on my treadmill (incline 7, speed 2.2), and went for 45 minutes, starting at a BG 123…I’d be in the 30s or lower at the end, unable to walk due to BG induced delirium, and definitely not thinking of adding insulin to the mix. I would rise a bit after completion, but nothing close to what I would consider a “spike.” I can only relate to what I’ve experienced, but a spike for me (food or otherwise) takes me from 100 or 120 to 160 or 180+, anything within going to 140-150 (ok, 160-165) is just normal fluctuation. I have never been able to stay in the 90-120 range; just doing normal daily life things like walking up or down the stairs to use the bathroom or empty the trash and I’ll wander up and down in 60+ pt range. I consider my TIR as great (and that’s after lowering the recommended range 20 pts), my GMI is 6.4 (not too shabby in my mind)…but if some people can maintain a BG of 80-120 consistently and consider a spike going to 130, I tip my hat to those that can and admit to envious thoughts!
