DN’s Running and Other Mishaps Thread

Sorry, I’m late. Yes, ZB prior and during the run.

Now gone from memory. Most likely had something to do with chicken… and cheese… and yogurt.

I know I’ve thought I’d seen them before, but there was always something else that could’ve explained it. There was nothing else Monday to explain it, and I know how my BG should’ve behaved. I really pretty much repeated the same routine Tuesday with ZB and yogurt combo, and I could barely kee my head up.

Also gone from memory, but my guess is eh

Interesting. That certainly describes Tuesday.

Imma do my best. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

great run Nicky!!! great numbers. seems like the ZB at the begining doesnt help you. eric would know better than i, but after following your track record, i notice 2 things in particular: one is what you are choosing to eat before your run, and two seems like it involves your Basal.

always wishing you good thoughts on your experimenting and your never-give-up attitude.

That’s interesting because I actually think it does. Although… the thing that might be the most helpful about is the predictability (usually) when I’m doing it. If I’ve got carbs and insulin floating around when I head out, its like swinging a bat blindfolded. It usually is very clear what I need when I knock those two out of the equation… which almost makes it convincing to knock those two out of the equation. Turns out the hard part isn’t in identifying it but in acting on it.

I’m so glad I give that off rather than the crying and complaining I do on the inside. And on the outside sometimes when the dam breaks. But I’ll just say that knowing you, @daisymae, @Trying, and @T1Allison are in here fighting, too— it gives me strength. And on that note… I’ve got a 9-miler… and a rising BG. :grimacing:

you really nailed it this time. how many carbs are in skittles? i know that banaas have apprx 30/35 gms depending on how ripe they are. and you take these without bolusing before you head out for your run?

So true!! It’s like we sabotage ourselves sometimes :frowning:

Approx 1g of carb per skittle. It’s actually pretty gross to eat skittles as you start a run. I’d like not to have to do that again.

And, yes, I can usually get away with a small banana at the start of a run, especially if I’m starting on the low end of normal… and particularly if I haven’t done a full hour of ZB. So today, because I was starting on the higher end and trying to follow the BG challenge numbers, I did a .3 unit bolus with the banana and didn’t cut my basal until a mile in. I normally wouldn’t have bolused at all and would’ve cut my basal at the start—and today I did have to fight the lows following that decision. :woman_shrugging:

Nicky,
A few things I want to tell you. Hang on to this post, it has some important things in it. Not just for the D, but for everything you do.

I know I gave you a very tough challenge this week. The BG rules were not easy. I really put it to you with the BG Weeks. A very hard, uncompromising, and stringent set of rules.

Why did I do that? Think about it real quick, then read on…

I know that you always do every single workout I give you. In fact, every single thing I have ever given you - the 2 hour half goal, the chip challenge, coffee, every workout - everything.

If I give you 7:30 intervals, you never come back and say you ran them at 8:00 because you didn’t feel like doing 7:30’s. You do every single thing I give you. Every single time. You never slack off.

(The only thing you have not done yet is give me a 3-4 RPE on easy days like I have asked, but hopefully one day you will realize the importance of that…)

I raised the bar this week. You had a shaky start, but look at what you have done since then.

You had become complacent with your BG in recent months. I know bad days can happen. That’s understandable. Starting at 200+ every once-in-a-while…sure, it happens. But it looked to me like you had gotten a bit too comfortable with it. You had gotten into some bad habits with it, and I just didn’t want to watch it continue.

Look at your last few days. This is absolutely outstanding stuff. I can’t really express it strongly enough. I could throw a bunch of emojis and gifs at you, and say “great job”, but seriously, none of that would do it justice.

By my count (and that’s the only count that matters) you have earned 30.65 miles this week.

I gave you a 2 week goal of 55 miles:

Less than 25 miles next week to get it.

I want to lift the BG sanctions after one more week. So knock it out with your miles next week, so we can get back to normal.

But I don’t want you to ever lose sight of what is possible for you when you have a challenge placed before you. And I want you to always challenge yourself with it. Do not lose sight of what you have done this week. It represents the fact that you are capable of doing this when it is placed in front of you.

I am super proud of you.
:hugs:

Hi.

I know I’m taking longer than ever to get back here to respond to things, but I can tell you if I had known this was sitting here, I would’ve been here immediately. I seriously have read it three times and am in danger of feeling super proud of myself.

Yes, complacent. Absolutely. That’s a scary place for me when it comes to my numbers. It’s a gateway drug, but in just a week, I’m a little less so. It’s crazy to me how quickly and easily and entirely I can settle back into numbness over my numbers. And not just crazy—but a little alarming. I’m not sure how to avoid it down the road, but I’m really glad to see how quickly and easily and entirely I can check back in. That’s big. So thank you.

So I see my big realization just now… was by design. It was a really good design.

About the chips… I was going to post a picture on my 6 month anniversary of the sealed bag but never bothered. I was going to post a picture a month later… never got around to it. I ended up eating some (not from that bag) 8 months after putting them away. They have since crept back onto my shopping list… though I have actually bought them only once. It was part of the general slipping category so much of my behavior was/is falling under. Anyway. Just wanted to come clean on that one.

Four times. I just read it again. And on that note, I’m getting moving. Thank you for filling my Monday morning with inspiration and good thoughts.

You should feel proud of yourself. Just don’t get cocky.

I’ll jump on you if I have to. In the meantime, stay focused so I don’t have to get on you about it, and we don’t have to start a new session of “BG Weeks”.

Every day, remind yourself that tomorrow’s run is irrelevant, and so was yesterday’s. The only run that matters is today’s.

Here is this week:

Get your 25 miles this week please!
:grinning:

Yay!!! That’s awesome!!!

[By the way…not to hijack your thread, but have any of us considered what @Eric’s coaching would be like if he coached a non-diabetic? As much as he pushes us FUDders even with all of us having the 1,000 variables that we have…I can’t imagine how hard he would push a non-diabetic! To be a fly on the wall of that scenario…]
