Blood sugar running low

Have had a problem lately that has me scratching my head, almost as big a problem as writing this, have a new great dane puppy and she is all puppy and all teeth.
Anyway, i realize my t1d is fluid and I go with the flow trying to stay on top of it. Last week I got sick, been fighting for a couple of weeks, it happens every couple of months if I am lucky, i have gastro issues from ins to reacurring cancer. Last week it got me, can’t eat, pain, vomiting or fluid from other end. I am hard headed so I drink water way more than little, eat 3 or 4 crackers all day. Light soups etc, knowing I need and to try and flush out. Wheel the beginning of this week my sugars keep going high, over 200, high for me, my AIC is 5.8, and staying, would go up I treat, start coming down, mabey 30 or 40 points then go right back up, would do this for hours. Vomiting got worse started taking anti nasua meds of my daughters, ran out of mine. I dropped like a rock that day, it helped stomach so I could eat alittle. Cut back basal and then suspended pump, was staying in 60’s. Wensday evening took hot soak and just left pump unhooked. Never went over 120 all day yesterday, had spaghetti/pizza for lunch, yea I know, said I was hard headed, an orential later. Last night I was 72 ate some grapes, an apple and a couple gram crackers. Now my pump has been off science wensday eveving, no boluses, got up this morning was below 40 all night, yes have been checking cgm against meter and readings are Danish +/- 5, had fish and chips today went to 160, turned on pump with 50% basal and 1 unit of basal. Hour later 65 dropping turned of basal ate a sandwitch went to 81.
I am so confused been t1d 20+ years. Have never talked this antinasua drug, daughter got when she got gallbladder removed. Could this be some weird side effect? I passed/failed depending on your perspective my labs confirming t1 with 2 endo s over the years.
No I will get through just don’t like not understanding, like I said I am hard headed.

I do know that some medications can affect your blood sugar (even when the doctors tell you it will not). It sound like you may have more than one issue going on. You may want to check with your endo or diabetic education nurse to figure it out.

Have you been traveling lately? I’ve some experience with traveling, getting exposure to a new strain of bacteria and as it grew to fill my body, it made my blood sugar drop very low.

I hope this helps. If you do find out, please post an update. This info could help others.

Thanks, responce kind of scary, don’t take wrong very appreciative, have not had my annual cancer screening since January 2017, of course it was back for multiple times. Had 4 surgeries ( I get halo abatement ) was told next time they were going to open me up and remove damaged part of esophagus. I have baretts asasagough.

Has been in back of mind but have never looked up or asked about any correlation. Thanks, really for eply. I see my endo on the 3rd. My insurance is active again on the first. Medicare though, so it is what it is.

Hi @T1john!

I don’t have much to add. I was only going to say that I can hit periods where I feel like I can eat anything and just not see my usual numbers. They don’t last long, but I run into this from time to time. Your situation is much more exaggerated though— so I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing at all.

With all of the vomiting and eating less food, maybe your insulin needs just really took a hit?? With that being said, if you haven’t had on a pump since Wednesday… I don’t know. That’s a really big hit.

I hope you figure it out, and I hope you keep an eye on your blood sugar in the meantime. Just in case things snap back and you find yourself on a rise. And congratulations on your new puppy.:heart:

I’ve found over the years that I don’t deal with thing like medications the way they tell me I should. I take lisinipril in low doses because I have a family history of high blood pressure, and my endo saw that my blood pressure was getting to the high end of normal. The lisinipril isn’t supposed to effect my blood sugar, but in me it does. It seams to actually make my blood sugar a little easier to control ( not a bad side effect, but it is different than “It won’t effect your BS”.

I’d suggest you question your endo and cancer specialist to see if they’ve heard of anyone having problems with BS and the meds you are taking.

I hope it’s related to my bug, i still wear my pump for cgm and alarms, basal is turned off. Can bolus if I want. Puppy is great, going to train her as a service dog. She makes me miss my baby and fell guilty but she’s really smart. Had her to days know how to walk on leash, sit, come and sometimes no, smart but still puppy.

Haven’t dived in 30 years for most part. Used to use tanks to clean pool up till mabey 10 years ago. But don’t remember alot from those days, hardly ever rec dived, was navy just till 86. Got caught up in Congress bull ■■■■ back in the day. But did dive all over world.

Wow! I’m so glad your doctors are helpful and available. That’s excellent news.

While it is not exactly useful in your case, because I don’t understand what is happening from a biological perspective, I did think of this old post when you mentioned you had been quite sick. Some people have had success using “microdoses” of glucagon while it is not exactly useful in your case, because I don’t understand what is happening for my biological perspective, I did think of this old post when you mentioned you had been quite sick. Some people have had success using “microdoses“ of glucagon when they have a persistent low or begin vomiting with a lot of insulin on board. I thought you might find it useful, or somebody else if they happen to stumble across this thread.

I hope you’re on the mend soon and feeling better. And congrats on the Great Dane. Love them!

@T1john Please jump into the diving thread whenever you feel up to it. We’d love to have your perspective on diving. You’ve been more places in the underwater world then I have, so I’m sure you can add to conversation.
