T1D person here (45+ years). I am “amen-ing” the comment about insisting that your insulin dose regimen is individualized to you! All too often (and I think T2D people get this kinda one-size-fits-all treatment than T1D folks do) the old “15 grams of crab = i unit of insulin”. I can suggest two great books (and get the latest editions) Using Insulin by John Walsh and Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner. While they may seem at first glance to be addressed to T1D folks, now that your insulin regimen has changed, these books will help you to ask the right questions of your HCP’s, and to feel more comfortable.(i.e. the fear of lows). And remember, adding a more intensive insulin regimen just means your are expanding your tool box. It isn’t a reflection of your character or abilities.

I surmise you are a type two diabetic. From the medication you are taking. It sounds like you were doing well if you’re A1c is seven or so. Are you getting many highs and lows on your CGM?
