I’m old, REALLY old. At least in MY opinion! I’m nineteen years old, and I’ve been nineteen for … lemme get a calculator … fifty five years.

I began injecting cow insulin in 1963. I had a Disetronic pump for a couple of years while my endocrinologist and I waited for Lantus to be approved here (in the USA). I’m still on glargine (Toujeo) since that’s what my Medicare drug plan suggested. Plus I take many many shots of Lispro throughout the day. My control is excellent (at least by MY definition — last A1c was 4.9 and time in range varies from about eighty four to ninety one percent). I’m virtually unaffected by hypoglycemia (until it drops below nineteen!) I’ve been partaking in a study which uses the Dexcom G6 and have found it virtually useless. I’ve been MUCH happier with the Abbott Libre (fourteen day) interstitial glucose monitor. No complications from being diabetic! Yet!
