Thank you for letting me join the community. My background blurb…
Diagnosed I guess about 17 years ago( give or take a year). I was a bit of an oddball, I was in my early 30s so the DR assumed type 2 but then saw ketones and then found my self in the Dr
s office telling me to take these needles and sent me on my way. The journey for me- trying very hard to control it, to just maybe getting by, to hey I need to look after this, to why does this not work, it`s not fair, to now embracing it. My New Years resolution was to embrace the obstacle, they are opportunities to learn.
One year ago, my A1C was up to 8.5. Prior to this I had also been in the 7.0 to 7.2 range. What changed ? I started to run, and I loved it. But my illusion of control went out the window. My goal was my first marathon in April 2019, but knew my control would make this an up hill battle, maybe impossible. I had no coverage for it, but I ordered the Freestyle Libre when it became available in Canada. Shortly after my coverage would allow me to have CGM for my Medtronic Pump. It was a complete game changer for me. I can see! I do not have to guess! I can literally see! I I completed my marathon (yes, with obstacles I embraced and cried about too). I learned a lot about my diabetes along the hundreds of kilometers it took me for run that final 42km. My A1C consistently dropped. It is now at 6.4.
I am hoping to pick up info to fine tune my control. The 670G is now available in Canada, and I will be getting it when they start to ship. I am aware of the problems a lot of people have with Auto, but who knows? At worse, I have a pump that is waterproof!
