This song is something I listened to frequently the past several months, but with my lyrics in my head instead of the original lyrics. Hopefully everyone understands what my meaning is here. I just heard that Bill Withers died this week. I was very sad to hear that. He was one of my all-time favorite Soul and R&B artists. Some of his hits include ā€œAinā€™t No Sunshineā€, ā€œUse Meā€, ā€œLean on Meā€, and ā€œJust the Two of Usā€. My all time favorite song by Mr. Withers is ā€œLovely Dayā€. At one point he held the record - at the time of the song release - for the longest-held note for a Billboard Hot 100 song. Itā€™s at the 3:06 mark of this YouTube link. The record he set at the time was 18.3 seconds. He also held the note several times for 10 seconds, during the same song! It is also remarkable that Mr. Withers sustained that note with chest voice, whereas others who have some of the longest note records used falsetto. And falsetto requires much less air. I am not certain of this, but I believe Mr. Withers still holds the record for the longest non-falsetto note. One of the all time greats, Bill Withers.
