More often than not I wear my Dexcom G6 on my thigh and get good results. Since I was unable to snag another round of the G6, I’ll be starting the G7 soon. I am going to continue to use the thigh area (more real estate than my arms, where I also wear my Pods) and am interested to learn if alternate locations are working well for other users. Thanks!

I wore many G7 sensors on the far upper part of my bicep, a couple inches higher than a pod would ever be worn. Towards the back, maybe 2-3 inches below the shoulder bone. That became my favorite zone for the G7! Hope that description makes sense, I don’t have any photos of that sensor placement.

I have only used a few G7’s so far. Mostly just to test them out while I go through the remainder of my G6 stash.

I put them on my abdomen. I know that is not allowed. The Dexcom police will come knocking on my door now. 😮

But they seemed to work okay there.

Back of arm. Placed with a mirror to avoid at least the places where spots from the last ones are still visible. I worry about wearing out the area, but the abdomen is worn out from decades of infusion sets, so I may try my man boobs.

I don’t know a biceps from a triceratops. I use the “back of the arm”, as instructed, except I’ve never tried the lower arm; the back of my lower are is somewhat lacking in subcutaneous fat, assuming “back” means the elbow side. So I end up with this:

 ![JBowler G7 placement_8_7_2026 2_25_31 PM](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex030/uploads/fudiabetes/original/2X/7/7faac2f1ab8794736cbd31b9dd1873f40e094582.jpeg)

The lower dashed red ellipse is where I started and used for some number of years but then I started having problems with reliability/accuracy. I swapped to the upper ellipse which, since the picture isn’t that clear, is on the opposite side to my armpit. I don’t use the intermediate zone because it is between two muscles (I think), there’s no fat, and I suspect the relevant “flexing” (is that right?) of the muscles would cause problems.

My upper chest I reserve for my Omnipod simply because it has much more subcutaneous fat. My endo pokes to the side of my belly and declares I have lots of places to put it but most of them bend, which periodically either pulls the canula out or pops the 'pod off. Upper chest is easiest by I’m trying not to overuse it.

I wear the G7 on the back of the upper arm. I was told by me Endo that FDA did not like the clinical data for the G7 when placed on the abdomen, hence the clearance only for the upper arm. Despite this, I did try wearing it on my abdomen a couple of times as I hate the fact that during the summer, the sensor is visible. But I did not like the readings and I was constantly finger sticking and calibrating. After two attempts, I gave up and only wear them on upper arm.

I’m trying my thigh for the first time right now and find it inaccurate. The readings haven’t settled down after first day craziness. It is not consistent in its inaccuracy either.
At the moment left arm seems to be the only place the G7 likes.
Further trials needed to find a second area to use.
Still find it much more accurate than the Libre and adheres better than the Libre on left arm.
I have started using SkinTac though as my right side seems to be a problem.
The experiment continues.
Good luck.

First time trying it and won’t do it again. Not impressed.
Front of thigh slightly up fom midpoint counting from underwear to knee and slightly off centre towards outside of leg.

To be fair I haven’t found anywhere on right side of body that works. Get great numbers on back of arm but since I’m a back/side sleeper I get failed sensor after at the most 3 days. No compression alarms just failed sensor in the middle of the night.
I believe @pugmommy has tried it on thighs so hopefully they’ll reply to this thread.

Thighs and upper chest work. I get great numbers on the chest (if your were looking at me, picture 10:00 to 2:00). I don’t use my upper arms at all - I sleep with three dogs (2pugs and one GIANT Schnauzer) so I am adjusting where I am all night. Arms just wouldn’t work.

Someone mentioned you in a post.

I use the upper arms, swapping every change. I sleep on my belly so that the thighs or abdomen don’t work for me. With the arms, I must wear a long sleeve shirt at work or I’ll snag the sensor on something and dislodge it.

@CatLady, when Kaelan started with the G7, after using the arms for a few months, he used the sensors on his belly, and he felt they worked well there: no loss of functionality, equivalent accuracy, same duration.

But—his sensors, whether on the belly or the arm, frequently don’t make it to 10 days (although this could be an artefact of his life as a young man), and he needs a lot of replacements. As a consequence, because he was worried about not obtaining replacements, he stopped using this location and is now using them only on his arms.

He just told me he wished he could use them on his belly so as not to damage sites.

Front of arm, although I have to tent it when I apply it in certain spots as I don’t want to hit a muscle. But the front allows me to see what I was doing and apply more Skin Tac when needed plus helped with restarts of my sensors.

I save my abdomen for my Omnipods because I can have skin reactions plus site failures. I don’t seem to have any trouble with the G6 adhesive or canula so I don’t want to chance messing that up by sharing spaces. I do experiment with other different areas for my pods. I like legs for my pods, but I do knock them off easier there.

I use G7 (10 days) and could not easily reach the back of my arm. Plus the Bluetooth signal didn’t reach my Tandem insulin pump if I slept on my back. So it goes on upper or lower arm as needed. For me abdomen not ideal. If I get a failure of the sensor, I call it in for replacement and always report it was in upper arm because they fail in Dexcom’s preferred location as well.

I didn’t know that was not allowed. When I started w Dexcom, back in G5 days, they told me to put it on the abdomen. That’s where it’s stayed.

I’ve tried the upper arm but have gotten unpleasant tingly sensations there.
