# Tresiba backordered?

According to my Walgreens, Tresiba vials are on backorder until 12/27. Fortunately, I have the time to call every pharmacy nearby to check what they have in stock. But most of them are out. I have enough to last months, but I just wanted to give others a heads up.

@Sam Yes, plenty of pens available. I switched to vials in order to do 1/2 units, or sometimes just a smidge more or less.

Can always fill a syringe with a pen too if push comes to shove

Yikes – I just noticed I am almost out of Tresiba (vial) and I’ve never used a pen in my life. (I’m sort of new to Tresiba and haven’t built a stockpile…) Is there anything I should know if I need to go this route? Any additional pieces to order? Thanks!

Pens are easy to use! Just make sure you prime it before dialing up your dose - to do that, you push through 1-2 units of insulin after you put on a new needle to make sure you aren’t injecting air and therefore mis-calculating the dose you are actually getting.
If you choose to, you can draw insulin from the pen with a syringe, but then you can’t go back and use a pen needle - it affects the way the pen works and may not give you the correct dose.

@JessicaD Also, if you get pens, you need pen needles. BD, whatever size. I have a ton of 8mm. I have nano somewhere, but those may still be packed.

Pens are super easy. Dial it up and squirt. I’m surprised people are using syringes with it. Pen needles go with the pens of course… can get them rx or otc

This is correct if you “draw… with the syringe”
If you “push” it into the syringe with the pen there shouldn’t be any issues

Thank you all! I got a note from Wegmans that the vial should come through in 1-2 business days, but if not, @Mariethm I had no idea you were so close – I would love to meet up and borrow a vial!

@JessicaD You don’t even need to need insulin to get together sometime!
Also, you and @bostrav59, (i think you’re the only 2 super close) if you ever need supplies, dex g7, etc, please let me know.

And @JessicaD, I think I was going to stop by your house for something when next I went over to BC. But I haven’t been to BC in about a year. I’ll let you know when I’m heading over there.

@Mariethm and @bostrav59 same to both of you – my supplies are your supplies if you are ever in need! But also, my candy (black licorice!) is also yours, @bostrav59 and I would love to get together for coffee, etc @Mariethm! Let’s come up with a plan for the new year (is anyone else in the Boston metro area?) xoxo
