I still cannot figure our the reason for my prolonged (2-3) day high BS despite my injecting 80-100 units or more in attempt to bring it down. Also kept adding units from my AID which I changed, checked that it was actually delivering insulin. My record showed that I was getting adequate insulin for the 4 hours prior to my extended high. It’s fine now and no extended highs that I can’t touch. Will have to make appt. with endo to dicuss.

I did not respond to your first post, but I am very glad that you have things under control again.
If this happens again, remember that an **undiscovered infection** also can cause unexplained glucose spikes. Case in point: About a month ago, I got up on a Monday and fought all day with higher-than-normal glucose. Exercise and insulin DID help, but I kept getting high glucose results throughout the day. Same thing happened on Tuesday. I felt fine all day, but about 1/2 hour after dinner, I started to feel pain on my lower right side. Long story short, by Wednesday morning I was admitted to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. The CT scan showed (in the doctor’s words) a “very, very angry appendix.” At least an infected appendix explained why no matter how hard I tried, my blood glucose kept rising. Once the infected appendix was gone, the glucose went back to normal.

That was very interesting. I’ve heard of infections, causing diabetes, actually type one.. I still don’t have an answer for why it was high, but it is better since medical intervened after a long time of neglect. It was dealing with vertigo for over 3 werks. Had a brain MRI but nothing found. I suppose that could’ve been a factor.

Just to be clear, the infection did not CAUSE my diabetes. I have been diabetic for 60 years. And in all of that time, I have noted – as have many other T1D – that almost any infection will cause a spike in blood glucose until that infection is gone. Regard a spike in blood glucose for what it is: a warning sign that SOMETHING is not normal and needs your attention.

Bring this up with your endo, when a high won’t budge despite repeated corrections, check ketones and consider changing the infusion site, set tubing and insulin rather than continuing to stack corrections.

I did bring it up to my Endo and they had no idea what caused it. I think I did check for ketones did not have them?

I had unexplained highs prior to the Omnipod recall. You can only verify a hardware failure by switching to MI. It can also be insulin that has deteriorated, right?

My endo (well, his PA who is a T1) concurred on that point WRT the Omnipod recall. I didn’t have any recalled pods when the call went out but I had suffered a couple of cases where normal treatment was not enough to bring down a high. Since I use AAPS I’m sure this was not subjective but I suspected a site problem; a common explanation which several posters have pointed out.
@andrea8 : I know of two sure ways of making my BG go high aside from equipment malfunction, including site failure. I only realized this was what was happening over the last few years as AAPS stabilized my control; in the prior 50 years separating out what caused problems was never my first priority.
The cert for me is stress, emotional stress. The second is disease; it isn’t quite as sure. Indeed COVID was manageable; I felt pretty ill but I could handle the BG, perhaps because it was a slow draw on my health.
For me if I stress about going high I go higher.
