Sorry you are having to change it up and not get the cheering and adoring crowd you deserve. Congrats though for getting through your training and dealing with the injuries and generally just being amazing.

Hooray!! I think this is a great idea. I’ll be virtually rooting for you! 🏃‍♀️

So getting some sort of injury while training for a marathon is pretty common, just because of the ramp up of miles and how hard that is on the body. I have had past knee surgeries so I was already a bit predisposed for more injury even though I’ve been doing core exercises and focusing on strengthening leg muscles.

But my biggest piece of advice if someone’s looking into walking or running more is to go to a legit running store and have them look at how you stand, walk, and run so they can make recommendations for the right shoe for you. I unfortunately had just gotten shoes online, and they were angled a bit off for the way I run, and that totally could have played a factor into it as well.

Thank you! 🥰 it is driving distance of SF if you’d like to drive across the country to the east coast 😂

Marathon training is very much back on track, and I feel like my spirits are a bit more up since I’ve got a target and I’m gunning for it 😃

Did 18 yesterday ✅ **and my I:C ratio ended up at 1:3,536 on the run**

I know Eric’s probably said it somewhere on here, but that’s such a crazy difference compared to my usual (~1:10)!

@Eric - did you want to tell everyone what you’re working on???

Welcome to infinity!!

Kinda neat, because eventually everything we discuss on FUD becomes relevant!

> [@How exercise increases the effect of insulin and carb usage](https://forum.fudiabetes.org/t/how-exercise-increases-the-effect-of-insulin-and-carb-usage/3857/1):
>
> 1. **Exercise can cause glucose uptake independent of insulin.** Exercise of sufficient intensity promotes the uptake of glucose by muscles without insulin. The body is clever - exercising muscles need more fuel, so there needs to be a way to provide more fuel to them. This can happen without insulin, but only at sufficient intensity. This is where it kind of gets tricky, but basically there is one important note at the bottom that is the one thing worth hanging on to.
>
> Not to get too deep in the weeds with it, but exercise increases uptake of glucose through what is called a “contraction mediated pathway”.
>
> _Adenylate kinase (ADK) converts 2 adenosine diphosphate (ADP) molecules into 1 adenosine triphosphate (ATP) molecule and 1 adenosine monophosphate (AMP) molecule. The ATP is hydrolyzed for energy, and the AMP attracts 5’-adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK acts in a way similar to how protein kinase B (Akt) recruits TBC1D1 (detailed in this post - [Biochemistry - what does insulin actually do?!](https://forum.fudiabetes.org/t/biochemistry-what-does-insulin-actually-do/3809)), which releases GLUT4 to the cell surface and allows glucose uptake. Additionally, calcium ions released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum during muscle contraction also promotes GLUT4. Other pathways include ROS signaling, and nitric oxide signaling._
>
> Bottom line, (the important part) **there are redundant and overlapping pathways for glucose uptake that occur during muscle contraction (exercise) that do not rely on insulin!**

It’s really cool to see that - no insulin, just keep needing carbs over and over! How awesome, right?!?

I am working on getting **you** to **both** lines - the start and the finish. 😉

Like it says in the commercial, “_…the world may never know…_”

But that’s okay, because we will know.

Less than 2 weeks until race day! And I can call it a race since @Eric will be joining me in running a marathon _virtually_ 😃 so we’ll start at the same time and both just go 26.2 miles. Simple and fun, but not necessarily easy at all to go 26!!

I don’t know any other coach out there that would drop everything and pick up marathon training. He’s absolutely absurd in the greatest way possible!! So big props to Eric and I respect the hell out of him for helping me in the first place, since I wouldn’t consider myself easy to work with all of the time. And then a big thank you for offering to (happily!) run alongside me (virtually) for a lot of frickin miles.

Hey, you are welcome!

I have had a blast, and it’s been great getting to have all the personalities meet over the past 20 weeks!

Tequila Eric meets Studious Larissa
🥃 🤓

Hurricane Larissa meets Sensible Eric
🌀 🤔

And then there was when Tired Eric met New Year’s Day Party Girl!
😫 🥳

Lot’s of great memories from our training time! Phriday Phun Runs and Google spreadsheets and all kinds of info exchanged in all kinds of ways. I have really enjoyed it a lot. It’s been great getting to know you. Respect! ❤

No, I haven’t! More so since I’m in it to get the 26.2 rather than the T-shirt at this point, AND I know my closet space wouldn’t be too happy with me 😅

Hey, @LarissaW, less than one week til the big day! I think this week you might be running a bit less than all of your previous weeks packing in the training for this marathon and you are probably apprehensive about NOT running your usual high mileage! I know your body needs the rest though so you can give it your all on race day! I won’t be running with you or even seeing you race but I will definitely be rooting for you! So excited for you, and inspired by your dedication!!
