# Omnipod issues massive pod recall today

Omnipod issued a massive pod recall today around 5:30PM EDT.
If you need to replace more than 20 affected Omnipod 5 pods, or more than 10 Omnipod Dash pods, you have to call Product Support directly. Otherwise, you can just use their online reporting form for those smaller pod amounts.
I would recommend checking your lot numbers now and calling ASAP. They anticipate running out of pod stock during this recall.

Did a bit of digging through ChatGPT ands found the below.
Insulet/Omnipod posted an **Urgent: New Medical Device Correction for Omnipod Pods** today, May 26, 2026. It affects **specific lots** of:
**Omnipod 5 Pods**
**Omnipod DASH Pods**
**Omnipod Eros / Omnipod Insulin Management System Pods**
This is **separate from the March 12, 2026 Omnipod 5 recall**. The March issue involved a possible **internal tubing leak inside the Pod**. This new May 26 issue involves a possible **small tear in the cannula/tubing just above the skin** , meaning insulin may leak **outside the infusion site** instead of fully going into the body. The risk is under-delivery of insulin, which can cause unexplained highs, highs that do not respond like expected to correction insulin, and in serious cases DKA. Insulet says there have been **24 serious adverse event reports globally** , including hospitalization and DKA, with **no deaths reported**. What concerns me most is that Insulet says this **may happen without an alert** , so families should not rely only on Pod alarms. You might notice wetness on the skin or adhesive, or smell insulin, but it can also be hard to detect. ([Omnipod](https://www.omnipod.com/mdc-5-26 "Urgent Medical Device Correction | Omnipod"))
**What you should do now:**
Check the lot number on the Pod tray lid, the 5-pack Pod box, or the flat side/bottom of the Pod. Insulet says all Pods in the same box are from the same lot, so if one Pod box lot is affected, do **not** use any Pods from that box. Use Insulet’s official **Check Pods & Request Replacements** page, or call Product Support at **1-800-641-2049** , available 24/7. Note that these US lot numbers won’t be the same in other countries. I got the notice in Canada yesterday and there’s only one lot number for O5 pods (PH1U01222522). Numbers for DASH and Eros pods are also different.
ETA: To my knowledge, there was no recall in Canada last month. The May 26 notice is the first one I’ve received.

Nevermind, I see the lot number actually reflects the dates shown on the pod boxes.
So that might be an easier way to do it, if you use your stuff by order of date, and have it stored that way.
For example, the 013124 number in the middle of the lot number means it was manufactured Jan 31, 2024.
I’m just going to turn all the lot numbers given above into dates. That will be easier for me to search!

Alright, I just got off of the phone with customer support…here’s what I can tell you based on my experience.
For those who Loop, they STILL WILL NEED TO KNOW PDM SN. IF it’s already associated / linked to your record, you are fine…in our case, Liam’s PDM wasn’t registered on his account so I had to email a picture of the PDM SN (I still had the PDM in the back of the closet).
They are going to work on getting the PDM registered to his account and then they’re going to call me back.
Once they call me back and confirm the PDM registration onto his account, they’re going to be shipping us SIXTY (60) PODS ONLY…they are only doing 60 at a time and they are expecting the other PODs to be returned. They will provide return label and I’ll be expected to return 60 of the impacted PODs and they once they receive those, they’ll ship out the remaining 35.
That’s the experience I had! Hope it helps you all if you’re doing the same!

Yep, I have. I used 3 pods with this issue not being aware of the recall. All 3 pods caused massive increases in insulin (around 50% increase) especially post dinner. Despite frequent corrections, I still went very high for me. I didn’tnotice leakage per se on the pod though, but I really didn’t look, not being aware of the recall. I called Insulet this morning and they will be replacing 8 boxes plus 2 pods (42 pods) for my most recent shipment. Thankfully I have a supply of older Dash pods with no issues. I replaced the recalled one with the older pod and my insulin dosage is back to normal.

Hmm, they did not ask for my PDM SN. I just told them my issue and the lot number for the 9 boxes. They said I should receive them next week along with a prepaid envelope to send the recalled pods back. They did ask me how long I’ve used OmniPod and I said for years.

Maybe they had PDM already linked to your account. That was their issue with me tonight. They said it would have been faster if that linkage was already established.

WOW, @ClaudnDaye! Is there anything left?! Quite the haul there. But if we order as needed and include the 8 hour grace, they do add up! I read elsewhere that some had in excess of 40 pods! Also, there’s a reported separate channel folks have referred to if over 30 or 35 pods. The need for a PDM SN seems to depend on who you get when you call! With millions of pods impacted, I assume they’re quite busy!

I used the chat function on the Insulet site yesterday and it was a very smooth process. They didn’t ask for PDM info and are shipping 60 of my 65 replacements. They’ll send the other 5 when they get the recalled pods.

Yes, maybe but I haven’t used a PDM in about 10 years and that was with the Eros pods. They did route my call to a different dept because they didn’t have enough info on me. They had my email though!
