Please note:

- I made this a pinned topic until October 31. Anyone can unpin it from their own screen: I think it is enough to read the whole thread.

- Any level3 may edit this wiki. But, if you want to add meds to the list and are not sure of how to edit the list, just add your info to the end of the thread, and someone will edit the wiki.

- Feel free to propose (or directly change) the wiki as needed for more information or clarity

I added a bunch of stuff and made some edits.

First of all, NDC is “National Drug Code”. So referring to it as the NDC Code is like saying “National Drug Code Code”.
(Like from the Department of Redundancy Department. 😀)

Anyway, I changed it to NDC **number** in a bunch of places.

Also, adding a reminder for everyone to verify their codes by checking them here:

I put some blank lines between various types of meds.

Maybe would be good to have one person modifying the list to maintain consistency and avoid duplicate entries?

I think this is all the information asked for above. I verified the NDC number at the suggested website.

Maybe another section should be added for things like SYMLIN and Metformin and so forth?

Anything else we should make a section for? We should put pods in there and infusion sets perhaps?

Test strips maybe? I feel like these can be easy to screw up, I know I’ve had a previous endo write me a script for “Contour” strips when I needed “Contour Next” strips 😐

Yes that would be helpful, but I will tell you that there are at least 12 bajillion of those. So there would be some serious effort to put them all together.

Yes. I put it in its own section, but I figure we should probably create subsection titles as well to make things clear: insulin short acting, insulin med or long acting, other meds, supplies, equipment. Possibly more detailed if it gets crowded.

It would be great to have a test strips section too.

There are two types of Symlin one for Type 1 and another for Type 2. The difference is in the dosing and they each have their own NDC number. The one listed (quoted above) is for Type 1; I believe the other is for Type 2, at the higher dose (shown below). It can been seen here:

0310-6627 Symlinpen Pramlintide Acetate Injection Subcutaneous Astrazeneca Pharmaceuticals Lp Human Prescription Drug

Great list by the way! Thank you 🙂

@Tapestry, is it correct that you are using the Symlinpen 60? I think the NDC number you gave earlier is specifically for the Symlinpen 60. I am guessing the other one is for the Symlinpen 120?

Here is a link that has links to the instructions for both pens:

Yes, I had used Symlin 60 (for a few years) and I had the number from some unused supplies. I’m no longer using Symlin, but I have a few boxes left, so I was able to get the NDC number.

Yes, I believe you are correct, the other pen is Symlin 120 and has a different dosing structure.

I’m resurrecting this thread as yesterday I received a letter from Express Scripts (ES) on behalf of Tricare (military medical coverage) advising me about the Omnipod O5/Dash recall (yes, it occured over a month ago). While I’d already confirmed my stash wasn’t impacted using Insulet’s site, I thought this could be a second recall, it was not. Rather, it took ES/Tricare about 40 days to get their notification letter to me. Foregoing that, the letter referenced an “NDC” number (I’d never heard of it before) and listed six 11-digit numbers (no alphas, no spaces, no hyphens) that were impacted. There was no other guidance in the ES letter to guide customers on what to look for on the pods or the box of pods to confirm they were or weren’t recalled. I should have known to look here on FUD, but instead called ES (Tricare’s current contractor for scripts) and asked them to decipher what exactly an NDC was and where to look on the pods/box. After being transferred to 4 different people and spending an hour on the phone (mostly on hold), I finally got an ES person that knew what an NDC was. She insisted the “NDC” had to be on the box or blister packs somewhere. So others are aware, “NDC” is not used anywhere on the Insulet Dash pod box, nor blister packs. It also was not on the script label, nor was the script label covering anything printed on the box. What I found that consisted of 11 digits was labeled “NRC” with the digits separated by two hyphens (see pic, very small text lower right). Interestingly its the same as the barcode if you include the leading “0” and leave off the trailing “6”, but has the inserted two hypens (I’ve no idea if this is standard or not). The ES person didn’t know what “NRC” was but assumed it was the same, it is not and the fact it matched may be coincidental.

I’d like to say ES and Tricare have a method for contributing to process improvement based on the above; if so, I haven’t found it. So, I’m in the midst of filing a grievance with ES and Tricare about their letter and how they need to improve it: The lack of guidance from ES on customers resolving whether their product has been recalled is appalling, the lack of knowledge of ES people involved in critical, life-impacting communication is also. Further, there appears no method other a greivance to make process improvement suggestions. Add to that the Tricare website says you can call and file a grievance (you cannot!), nor is there an on-line system for doing so; the process seems intentionally built to be so long and evolved people give up doing so.

BTW, NDC=National Drug Code; NRC (to the best of my sleuthing)=National Reimbursement Code. Both are 11 digit numbers (no alphas), the former without spaces/hypens, the later with two hyphens. I’m sure there is logic here, but I can’t/haven’t fathomed it. All I know is I wont rely on ES or Tricare for recall information; their process is slow, unreliable, and not enough ES/Tricare people understand it, let alone can they talk with customers or patients thru its use! Instead, I’ll rely on Insulet and the FDA. (And no, I can’t believe I said that!)

Hi @TomH,
It’s amazing how they have taken a simple thing and obfuscated it!

Originally the NDC was a way of making sure every prescription item had a unique identifier. I learned that using the NDC was the best way to ensure that you got the right thing.

For example, if you told your doctor you wanted a certain type of insulin syringe, they would give you whatever.
(_30 units, 50 units, 100 units. It’s all the same, Eric. Just use whatever we prescribe and take your insulin!_ 😂)

So I started using the NDC with the doctors to make sure they got it right.

But anyway, now we have another number. 🤦‍♂️

BTW, the NDC for the Dash pods is 08508-2000-05. With or without the dashes, it does not matter. If you google that number with no comments and no context, you will see it comes up as the NDC for the pods.

So I guess the NDR for the pods is dropping the leading zero, but is otherwise the same.

Not really sure why they need a different number. But I guess trying to apply logic to anything government or healthcare related is a waste of time.

Google AI to the rescue, ‘what is an “NRC” code for US medications’:

> An **NRC** (National Reimbursement Code) is an 11-digit identifier used primarily for medical device billing and supply chain purposes, often found in place of legacy codes like the NDC (National Drug Code) or NHRIC.

Your picture did, indeed, show both the NDC and the NRC since ATM they are the same.

If you look at the next panel to the left of the box you will see that the same code is in the QR code information with the (01) tag:

 ![IMG20260716170131](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex030/uploads/fudiabetes/original/2X/b/b6467426fe2ca92d2798245fc27cf1cb58ea9c68.jpeg)

This is where the “macro” setting on our 'phone’s camera really starts to help… Now the thing they really need is the (10) number because that identifies the lot; the N[RD]C is the same for every Dash pod on the planet. Here’s the picture to the left of the above:

 ![IMG20260716170146](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex030/uploads/fudiabetes/original/2X/b/b227399b4d363e5896df50e23cf9eb104aa019a7.jpeg)

Both numbers are on the butt of the pod itself; the following is the rear of a dash pod from a different lot:

Notice that the NRC/NDC derived number on the right is just the first five digits followed by “63”; my guess is that Insulet can use that to get back to the full NRC/NDC.

As for the supplier of a medication, or a device, requiring that you give a complex code in response to a recall which they only noticed more than a month (10 dangerously non-working pods) ago. They know what they shipped you; clearly they know the NRC/NDC! I believe they should also know the **lot** number, which is what matters, and be extremely proactive in telling anyone they shipped a recalled lot to not to use the stuff they shipped!

This is somewhat off topic, however it is clear that **devices** are transitioning away from NDC codes to NRC codes. Might be interesting to hear from someone in the EU what appears on their boxes and 'pods.
