It is an interesting study. It may point to an issue worthy of further and more rigorous study, however the problem that exists with these types of studies is the mainstream media making more of it than the data would indicate. Thankfully, Insulin Nation didn’t write a click baity type of headline.

Yes but. 67000 pregnancies and a 50% increase weather directly related or not points to something…but what. Damn it:)

And of course that is what the prospective study would need to be done for. The problem with many of these, is that it isn’t always clear what the issue is, and getting funding in such circumstances is difficult.
You really have to love the Nordic countries, they are very efficient and do a great job of collecting information on their patients and publishing these large correlation type studies, but they are unfortunately only the first step in the process. i.e. distilling the ideas to find good ones to study.
In my old life, these countries did a great job of tracking pacemaker outcomes and gave some great data to the larger medical community, but devices are much easier to study than biologic outcomes.
