I just came across this article:

> **[A high-carb diet may explain why Okinawans live so long](http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20190116-a-high-carb-diet-may-explain-why-okinawans-live-so-long)**
>
> Emerging evidence suggests a 10:1 ratio of carbohydrates to proteins may protect the body from the ravages of ageing

What do you think of this?

Diet is only one factor. Genetics, activity, stress, smoking, disease, so many other things to consider.

But I have thought for a long time that the low-carb/high-fat idea is not very good.

I think that there are pockets of people around the world with different diets that have a lot of long lived people. Seeing someone create a click-bait title like that when they admit in the article it is probably genes + low calorie diet + lots of vegetables + exercise + strong community is kind of a crappy title.

A far more interesting article would be to compare the pockets of people around the world that live so long and see what the common things are, and I guarantee it won’t be 10:1 carbs to protein.

I think one of the things that’s left out of the click-bait title is the type of carbohydrates they’re eating. Generally unrefined rice and sweet potatoes, a lot of high fiber vegetables and such. They’re not eating a 10:1 ratio with a bunch of high fructose corn syrup and dairy based carbs.

Both of which are pretty much a staple of my diet… 🙂
