# Gluten consumption during infancy tied to type 1 diabetes risk

Researchers found that gluten intake at 18 months of age is associated with development of T1D. Interestingly, in [a study published in May this year](https://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/42/5/789.long), the same researchers did not find an association between gluten intake at 1-2 years of age and development of T1D in a population of children with a high risk of T1D.
