# Filled Omnipod Dash pump but it didn’t beep

My question is…is it okay to use the pump? It did prime okay but wow! did I have a bit of a rough time with my post-meal/pre-bedtime blood sugar last ngiht. (This morning is somewhat better.) I am low on pumps (awaiting refill order) so I went ahead and used it. Anybody else ever experience this?

I have occasionally had pods that beep very faintly, almost too faint to hear. Usually I guessed that somehow I was muffling the beeper speaker. Maybe yours did beep but you did not hear it? Regardless, if it primed I would certainly use it.

It’s possible the speaker inside is broken. If that is the only issue, it won’t affect the pump.
If it occludes, you won’t get the alerts from your pod. So you just have to keep an eye on your BG to be aware if there is an occlusion. But since occlusions are not very common, it’s certainly worth using.
You can do the test beeps after you have activated it, to see if the speaker is broken.

That’s interesting. In eight years of podding, I just had my first non-beeper last week (an Eros pod, not Dash). I didn’t trust it, so I didn’t use it. I phoned it in, and Omnipod’s uncurious response suggested it was a fairly common occurrence.

That’s very odd, considering how listening for the beeps is highlighted during the insertion process. 🙄

So far as I can determine the pumps simply won’t prime until they have enough insulin. I don’t see how they can; it’s perfectly possible to say that I’ve heard the beeps when I haven’t then just insert enough insulin. I think I’ve done that a few times.
I’ve also had one case of a pump (Dash) which did not beep but then it wouldn’t prime.
I think I’ve also had a few cases where I didn’t notice the beep; hey, IRL other noises happen at the most inappropriate times! No problem.

I recently had another pump that didn’t beep after filling. The PDM displayed a message about a communication error. The Omnipod tech support form lists communication errors as a valid reason to request a replacement. So I filled out the form and the replacement is on its way. 😃
