Dexcom just got FDA clearance on a Basal program aimed at new T2 users with G7s. The software is supposed to help the patient fine tune their basal dose after the initial dose has been set by a clinician.

Interesting picture, eh? That would be 140mg/dL; probably the absolute minimum their algorithm will ever give.

More grist for the insulin-causes-Alzheimer’s meme. If you give someone who needs a bolus before a meal a basal instead they go low, all the time. So fix it by making them go high all the time. That may, indeed, avoid Alzheimer’s by preventing detection at a later age.

So yeah, a CGM is important and, yeah, a G7 is a CGM but no, a CGM is **not** a pump and jumping on the tech bro bandwagon is more likely to lead to Alzheimer’s than prevent it.

I’m still not sure what they intend to convey with a picture of someone looking at 140mg/dL. Is that meant to be good, or bad? How on earth can you avoid low BG on Basalgar if you inject enough insulin to cover even one heavy-duty chocolate cake (look to the left) a day?
