# Dexcom 15 Day Receiver

I contacted Dexcom to check if I needed a new receiver when I transition to the 15 day. The agent said no but it would need an update.
I took a couple of screenshots to share here in case anyone was wondering. I don’t use a receiver because it’s not compatible with Omnipod 5 but I do keep one as a backup in case my phone craps out.

When I got my new 15-day sensors from my supplier, they came with a letter about how to upgrade the receiver! I haven’t done it yet because I still have a handful of the 10-day sensors and am not sure if the update is backwards-compatible. It looks pretty easy to do, though.

It’s backward compatible; I tried two G15 endo samples then went back to the G10s I still had. No problem on the receiver.
The problem is that the update kills the current sensor, so it’s not that simple. It has to be coordinated with sensor replacement. I use xDrip+ so I just took the receiver out of the loop for a while, did the update (which is tedious since the thing has to be connected to a puter) then resynced it to the previously started sensor.

Thanks, I suppose i better find my receiver and do this. I do not think I have ever used the receiver Medicare made me purchase. But better safe than sorry in case someone show up at my door and demands a surprise sensor receiver inspection.

That is helpful to know, especially for anyone keeping a receiver as backup. Good that it just needed an update. Have you had to rely on it much or has your phone been working fine?
