Daisy Mae's swimming BG thread

I was wondered about that and figured there was a solid reason. I’ve seen others in the DOC do the same thing! It’s amazing!

That helps, thank you! The refuel was your drink and yogurt!

i always bolus for the refuel, but i dont bolus 100% of my ICR. i only bolus (a little under) 50%. example: instead of bolusing to cover the full 32gms, i have been bolusing 1.4 units.

also, as eric will attest, if i dont bolus immediately after i get out of the pool, my BG’s will spike incredibly. remember, i have been off ALL basal for 4 hours at this point, and i need to replace the basal insulin.

does that help?

Yes, it does  Thank you!

POST SWIM LOWS EXPERIMENT #1:

lows all evening starting at 8pm. turned on a lowered TB. then throughout the night, i continued having to lower my TB. now i am on a 90%TB, and after eating some delicious jelly beans and a few spoons of yogurt, my BG finally came up to 81.

i swam 5 days this past week, so its no surprise that my IS is effected. i even look out for this type of situation after every swim.

btw, currently my meter reading is 81, and my Libre reading is 91(with a straight arrow). not too bad  .

MY LIBRE HATES THE POOL EXPERIMENT #3:

this may sound absolutely crazy to you, but i swear its the 100% truth: for 3 days in a row now, and my Libre sensor has matched up pretty close to my finger sticks, when i begin prepping for the pool, when i am walking to the pool, while i am at the pool, and when i get home from the pool my FS Libre decides to play games and have a little fun; the readings are so OFF that its laughable. however, once i am home for about 1/2 hour, it begins to get into sync again. i cant for the life of me figure out what is happening. its as if the Libre is its own living organism and it somehow doesnt like going to the pool. HA!!!

anyway. all that aside, i had a wonderful Sunday Swim. pool was rather empty. swim was strong and hard. pushed myself till my muscles burned. on a scale of 1 to 10 in difficulty level i would rank it an 8. i wont be able to swim tomorrow bc of a Dr. appointment in the City. i will be back in the pool, though, on Tuesday. then Dental appointment on Wednesday, then back in the pool for the remainder of the week. they will be closing the pool for cleaning for 10 days beginning on the 23rd of August, so i am trying to swim as much as possible before they shut it down.

here are todays stats:

12:30 bg 103
1:20 bg 113 ( ate 2 Jelly Belly jelly beans–2gms carbs)
1:50 bg 109
2:20 bg 93
2:50 bg 88 (bolused 2.3 units for basal and put on a 97% TB which is .025 units less than 100% basal) (we’ll see how that works, as i was riding the cusp of very low yesterday)
3:20 bg 86 (bolused for 32gms refuel 1.4 units)

as i am writing this, my BG went down to 54. i had 4 more jelly beans. (this was a tip i learned from Eric, as each jelly bean has 1 gm of carbs. they are easier to manage when i dont need much at the pool, and they taste a heck of a lot better than Gtabs .)

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

The Libre things is rather odd. I wonder if it has anything to do with the level of activity. You may be more active while prepping, walking, and at the pool, than just … being. Unfortunately, that’s when you need it to be at its best though. Here’s hoping after a little time, it will get better.

The jelly beans sound great and would be easier and tastier than gtabs!

Your swim was wonderful. What are you going to do when the pool is closed for ten days?

i am getting in as many apppointments and obligations as possible. i want to cram it all in asap. its 10 days without the pool. i will probably also do a lot of walking if the weather permits.

thanks for asking. i am still trying to get my act together :sunny:

MAKING AN ADJUSTMENT EXPERIMENT #1:

well my BGs were on the high side when i started my swim prep this morning (115) so before i unhooked from my pump for ZB, i pre-bolused .5 units and drank 2 Diet Pepsis and 1C of black Cold Brew coffee. but at 12:30, my BG had climbed up to 123. so even with a little IOB, i decided that it would be best if i dashed off to the pool 1/2 hour earlier than i typically do. but, when i got to the pool, just before jumping in, i did a finger stick and my BG had come down to 110. why? who the heck knows. could be a number of things.

well, anyway, i wanted to mention, in case i havent already, that Eric (who else  ) turned me on to Jelly Belly jelly beans as a fast carb source. each jelly bean has only 1 gm of carbs, so it is very easy to know how much i am taking rather than trying to break those darned gtabs when i am getting out of the pool to test and realize that i need a bit of fast sugar before getting back in to finish my swim. and they taste great, too  . they proved very useful today.and i had another great swim!!!

here are today’s stats:

12:55 bg 110 took 2 jelly beans and hopped in
1:30 bg 100 took 1 jelly bean and hopped back in
2pm bg 78 took 1 jelly bean and hopped back in
2:30 bg 80 bolused only 2 units today bc i had only been on ZB for 3.5 hours instead of 4.
3pm bg 84 bolused 1.4 units for my refuel shakes.

now on a 97% TB (-.025 u/hr) to hopefully hold me steady from crashing) tomorrow i have a long dental appointment in the City, so i wont be swimming, but i will be right back in the pool on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

SWIMMING HARD OUT OF ANGER TODAY EXPERIMENT #1:

so there’s this guy i see frequently at the pool, and sometimes we have to share a lane. he’s a really unpleasant fellow; really arrogant and behaves like he’s one of the best swimmers in the pool at any given time. i dont like him. i dont even like sharing the lane with him…even if its just the two of us in the lane. he kicks me, he splashes, etc.

well there he was today, jumping into “my” lane (which up until that point had been empty except for myself) he could have gone in either of 2 other open lanes, but he had to pick “mine.” why? bc he is just that type of person. well, as he was passing me, he kicked me REALLY hard.well, when he got to the end of the lane (which is where i waited for him) i let him know that he kicked me hard, expecting some sort of appropriate appology. but instead, he started yelling at me. all sorts of names, right in front of the lifeguard. the lifeguard had to call the supervisor, as the idiot was getting really loud and there are children in the pool (they could get frightened, they would be exposed to foul language, etc.) so anyway, they gave him a warning and i moved over to another lane. no big deal, right? except i see this guy all the time.this is my most relaxing time of day. the last thing i wanted was making an enemy at the pool. basically everyone there is kind, respectful, and they maintain swimming-lane etticit. well, the supervisor said that they would have a discussion with him once he got out of the pool and that i was not the only one that has had problems with him.

needless to say, the rest of my swim was an effort to shake off my fury (and to nurture my injured leg). UGH. and out of anger, i swam much faster and harder than i usually would. after a while,(when i saw him leaving the pool) i was able to get into my zone and chill out.

but the funny thing is that today, of all days, Eric challenged me to have a fast interval swim. to go “all out” then rest, then to go “all out” again and rest. etc. IRONY.

here are today’s stats:

1:pm bg 109 leave for the pool
1:15 bg 110 take 2 jelly beans
1:50 bg 100 take 1 jelly bean
2:20 bg 85
2:50 bg 87 bolus 2.3 units for replacement basal
3:25 bg 92 bolus 1.4 units for 32gms refuel

a really nice, flat swim. and i’ll be back in the pool tomorrow, and i can only pray and keep my fingers crossed that the offensive idiot is not there and does not show up.and btw, i am home and feeling a lot better now. i put in the work, and i am proud of my accomplishment :sunny:

Great numbers, great swim, in spite of the jerk who kicked you!! They should ban him from the pool!

Awesome stuff once again!

Love what those jelly beans are doing for you!

A hungry lion who is chasing its prey always goes “all out”, never halfway. And you are the lion of the pool! :lion:

i do my best

and big-time YES; those Jelly Beans are Heaven!!! Great call for me, Eric. Thanks a zillion.

now that they know who he is, i think that they will keep an eye on him; perhaps he’s had trouble with other swimmers. he was, and always has been, a complete A-hole to me. its not likt this is a one-time thing. we’ve gotten into scuffles before, but this time it was a low-down all out brawl. they wanted to give him a warning, but he swam off very fast (i was pretty certain he knew what might be coming from the staff.)

i really hope he’s not there today. i will only be able to swim twice next week bc they are closing the pool until after Labor Day

A coward, too, swimming off like that!

Have a good swim, and hope he is not there!
