# Anyone having a problem getting G7 sensors?

The shortage I’m aware of dates to last February, was reported by Dexcom to be due to shipper handling devices inappropriately (sounds odd, but that’s what Dexcom reported). That shortage was supposed to be resolved within 2-3 weeks, so toward end of March. However, I know there was shortage in military pharmacy channels as of early April (I tried to get my last refill, my normal mil pharmacy had none nor did their provider, they arranged for me to get the last nine in stock at Walter Reed Hospital pharmacy). This could have been a hold-over or follow-on to the shortage Dexcom reported in February. I checked with my normal military pharmacy this morning and G7’s were back in stock and available.
If anyone knows for sure of another or lengthening of the February shortage, please speak up with a source.

I haven’t had issues so far. I use CVS/Caremark, not sure if that matters.

My normal mail order shipment had to be delayed two weeks due to a shortage of G7s. Just received mine today. But the problem at my pharmacy must have been fixed for now cause they’ve scheduled my next order to arrive in two weeks,

I wonder if the shortages that people are seeing with G7s are due to the recent FDA letters to Dexcom regarding the inspections recently. Dexcom received 2 separate letters from the FDA regarding their manufacturing practices. The letters amount to a formal slap on the wrist but start the process of shape up or ship out.

Dexcom received a Warning Letter from FDA several months ago regarding mfg, quality system and G7 design issues. FDA seemed to disagree with Dexcom’s assertions that the design changes do not deviate significantly from the original FDA clearance. If Dexcom loses that argument, they will end up having to submit the new changes to the FDA for review/approval. FDA also noted that those same changes appear to apply to the G6 sensor as well. In the WL, FDA noted that Dexcom said they would temporarily stop shipping G7s. It was not clear why. It was during this time that I was unable to get my usual 90 day shipment - I only got a 30 day supply. But since then I have received a full shipment from my distributor. I assumed the shortages were a result of the shipping hold placed by Dexcom. Hopefully this is all cleared up now.

I use the g6 still but just got an email from Caremark that my shipment might be delayed as they’re out of stock… first I’ve seen this message for anything

I use CVS Caremark and they basically told me they have none in stock and their system shows no ETA for when they will have any.
None of our local pharmacies have any either.

Try Edwards, a mail order DME supplier. I just got a 3 month supply of G7 sensors late last week from them with no problem. Edwards has people who actually answer the phone and give reliable answers. They can let you know if they will be able to bill your insurance. 1-888-344-3434

And after telling me last week there would be no G7 stock in the foreseeable future, CVS autofilled my Dex this weekend and had it waiting for me.

Central Midwest US here, just got off phone with Dexcom, after 2+ hours calling pharmacies in my area trying to get DexG7 sensors refilled. They are going to send me a couple of sensors (whew, though still probably fingersticks for a few days). The CSR said current difficulty is due to high number of folks switching from G6 due to it being DC’d (??) by company. Don’t have another source for this, but wanted to give folks a heads-up.

@Dogmama and @ClaudnDaye Dexcom’s website ([Information on Dexcom G6 Discontinuation & Dexcom G7 Upgrading | Dexcom](https://www.dexcom.com/faqs/dexcom-g6-discontinuation-and-g7-upgrading) ) reports the G6 is “in the process of discontinuation” but assures users it will remain available until the supply of G7s is adequate to meet the need and AID users (presumably commercial only) have been modified appropriately for it, which means FDA approval (or whatever the correct word is). Like @ClaudnDaye says, Dexcom hasn’t stated a date for G6 demise and it’s likely quite sometime off (months at least, a year, longer?). Btw, @Dogmama welcome to FUD, you may not agree with everyone here, but the exposure to varying opinions and perspectives is great!

Dexcom aren’t giving much if any meaningful information:

The issue with the O5 is that the **iPhone** app isn’t compatible with the G7 and that, as I understand it, is required for pairing. Android works fine (according to Insulet.)
Tandem (t:slim) seem to have claimed compatibility since 2024 but it’s not clear whether it is an AID and it’s not clear if it requires a smartphone. AID is very much turning into a marketing term so nothing is clear these days.
On the original topic I’ve seen delays in supplying Dash pods from Walmart but I think that may be down to relatively low supply through pharmacies; I had lots of problems after switching to MediCare until I went to mail order (Edwards, EHCS). Edwards managed to fill a 90 day (or maybe three month) prescription with 50 pods pretty much instantly after I’d gone through the sign-up process (about a week.)

I think the iPhone app version was released for the O5 recently (last couple of weeks?) at least per Insulet’s website. I don’t use it so I’m relying on their site.

Yes the Omnipod 5 app for iPhone is now compatible with Dexcom G7, since early June.

I think Tandem’s Control IQ is classified as a “hybrid closed-loop” AID. The t:slim is currently compatible with the G6, G7, and Libre 2 Plus. The G6 and G7 don’t require a smartphone, you can do everything on the pump, with the option to also use your phone (Dexcom and/or Tandem apps). But it sounds like the Libre 2 Plus **does** require a smartphone to start the sensor (through the Tandem app only, can’t use the Freestyle Libre app).
