It never rains but it pours. I came home from town and my A/C stopped working. I knew what the trouble was, gunk in the drain and pump in the attic. I called for service and a very nice many came out and got the house coollng.

The second thing was I need to change out my G7 sensor. I cracked the seal and twisted off the lid. It was already discharged. Got another sensor and it did the same thing. I had one in a mailer that was replacing a sensor that failed. That one is warming up- wait it just did.

The failed labels are on the left the far right is the good one.

Such a pain! Our air conditioner died last weekend and they are coming to install a new system (heat and cool) tomorrow. It’s been a long, expensive week.

Thankful for the 15-day sensors, though - one less change per month means one less sensor to worry about going bad!

Thanks for the information. I’ve been using Dexcom for years now, but this year the quality of the product has really failed. I had more than a dozen sensors with that “gooseneck” issue, and I switched a couple of months to the 15 day sensor and not one of the 15 day sensors lasted 15 days. After 10 days or so, sensor fails to read blood glucose with that wait 3 hours message then it comes back on with a critical error to replace sensor.

Dexcom has replaced all failed sensors thankfully, but their product isn’t cheap so if they fail they should be replaced. I wish the technical customer service was a bit more receptive. Instead of the repeated moronic questions they ask you, they don’t want to discuss the actual issues: “goosenecking” or why a 15 day sensor doesn’t last 15 days.

The biggest issue for me now is I never know if a sensor will have an issue. When they are working, they do a great job; however, when I travel, I need to take like 6 sensors with me just in case. I’ve never done that until this year.

@CarlosLuis Sorry you experienced both the AC issue and the G7 issue at the same time. This is the first I’ve heard of a pre-opening discharge! Thanks for box pics, I’ll note those in case I run into similar.
@allison Glad G7-15 is working for you!
@drrps3 Thankful I haven’t had a “gooseneck” yet (knocking on wood as I write). Hopefully you wont have others and glad Dexcom replaced them for you. If you have the lot#’s it might be helpful to others if you post them; if not, perhaps next time. Dexcom’s own studies show the G7-15 reaches 15 for about 3/4’s of users, the other 1/4 range less. I think it has to do with variations in blood chemistry vs the coatings on the sensor wire; hopefully Dexcom improves the number of people it works for. If you continues to have issues and you have the option, perhaps going back to the G7-10 day would help.

Wow! That’s terrible ☹
I hope you have plan B or surplus!

I’m about to switch to DexCom temporarily for the purpose of adding support to my app but I remember last time I did give it a try - the results very subpar(error margin mainly, apart from being active only 10 days vs 14 back then). However, recently I had to return 3 Freestyle Libre 2 plus sensors cause they started showing non-sense so something fishy is happening, maybe they try to reduce production/manufacture costs and it increased the faulty sensorts share?

The “good” one was manufactured in Sept of 2025, the failed ones were both manufactured at the very start of this year (this is entry (11) on the label). Entry (10) is the lot number and repeats that in some way.

ATM I’m running a (10)1826029008, also manufactured in Malaysia on 26-1-1, and it was OK.

Sounds like another bad lot: **(10)18226012003**

I just called Dexcom support because I like aggravation. Usually I use the online form, but I wanted to explain about these 2 out of box failures. I am still not sure if the person on the phone really understood the issue, but I thing they are sending return mailers for the 2 sensors.

My concern is I have 3 sensors of the same manufactured date. Well, not too concerned. I just opened a box of 9 sensors that are manufactured 05/26.

Sorry this happened to you, CarlosLuis. Your story just re-emphasizes the importance of a “stash” to cover situations just like the one you just encountered. Thank you for posting the pictures, and thanks to jbowler for explaining what some of those mysterious numbers mean. Virtual hugs to both of you!

Two sensors doing the same thing? 😩 Possible it’s the applicator or maybe a bad batch.

Question that keeps coming to mind when I see theses discussions, why do people who experience multiple issues with Dexcom G7s seem to experience multiple issues repeatedly, whereas millions of users who experience minimal issues don’t experience multiple issues repeatedly? Is this really an indication of product issues or impacted more by product insertion or setup by users?

I realize I’m going to flack for asking this, but I have used T1D products for 56 years and spent time working for medical device manufactures, and part of my job was identifying causes for errors, product failures and misuse, the creating corrective actions with other team members, so I’m curious.

I assume it’s a combination of biology, behavior, and luck. Every single Dexcom sensor I’ve ever installed has suffered from compression lows so I’ve learned to not put pressure on them. But I have a sibling who has never noticed a compression low. I suspect a difference in biology there. Clearly installation technique may make a difference. Where do you place the sensor? Is your thumb depressing the deployment button when you unscrew the lid? Do you go swimming immediately after installation? And truly random distributions always have clusters of failures. Distributions that are completely bereft of clusters are usually human attempts to create a random distribution.

Today, I had to replace my Dexcom G7-10. Put it on and it was a bleeder initially (through the hole and under both sides. These have worked previously, so I soaked up the blood and let it go. Seemed to work initially, starting at 68, but kept going lower ending at 38, reporting LOW for about 45 minutes despite my BG meter saying 89, and several minutes later 91. I trust the meter more than Dexcom, particularly first day first hour. Finally determined the Dexcom was toast, swapped it out, and now have a new Dexcom (slightly variable, but its the first day) and within 4 pts of my meter at 104 and relatively stable. Reported it to Dexcom using the online form and just got emails saying they’re replacing the bad G7 and another em with a tracking number. The one issue, this is the second replacement I’ve asked for online this year and Dexcom still hasn’t fixed the issue of not having “Omnipod Dash” as a selection; at the encouragement of Dexcom’s Chat agent I selected “Omnipod 5”, but you’d think they’d fix the issue 6 months later.

Edit: I just noticed both the G7-10s (failed and operating) are from Malaysia (I think that’s a first) and same lot #1826042004.

It’s not the date, well, not so far anyway; I had 6 sensors manufactured on that date and so far two have been OK. Check the lot number, entry (10) and also given explicitly as “Lot No” on the other end of the box. If you get a match with the lot number for your two failed sensors I would use those ones _first_ because you might just run straight through them; your failure is out-of-box. It’s worse than the gooseneck which I believe, could be predicted by examining the needle (actually a u-channel) on the sensor before insertion; if the sensor was out of the u-channel it would gooseneck. However it may gooseneck even if it is in the channel, we just don’t know (we only have the pictures for known failures).

I saved a couple of sensor box tops with the “goosenecking” issue. The lot number is 1825221005. There were other lots, but I must have thrown out those box tops.

Great question. Is it sensor issue, sensor insertion or quite possibly something else??? In my case, I really thought I was doing something wrong with insertion. I looked at YouTube videos, re-read product instructions, etc. It didn’t help.

All I can go on is that I have been wearing Dexcom since it came out. I have had maybe a handful of failures in all this time until this year where I’ve had to replace at least a dozen sensors.

Yes, that’s the frustration with calling Dexcom support. I firmly believe they don’t understand the issue or are instructed to just ask those ridiculous questions before they just replace sensor. When I used to call, I told them something was not right, and I thought my issue may help correct the issue or help others users. They listened then asked the next ridiculous question. When I inquired about the Malaysian manufacturing issue, I was met with complete ignorance or I believe the company line that they had to follow. I only use the online support now.

And speaking about this Malaysian manufacturing issue, Dexcom should have informed users and replaced sensors. Yes, they did replace the sensors, but it would have saved users a great deal of frustration if we at least had some information from Dexcom about their wearable medical device that they sold that had an issue.

@drrps3 I’ve read about several folks saving the Dexcom box tops. I take pictures of both ends and the sensor itself (for the activation number plus what it has printed on it), probably overkill but its now a habit! I wonder if a site/forum topic dedicated to Dexcom issue reporting would be helpful?

I agree with your comment regarding questioning yourself. With the gusher I had yesterday, I began wondering if it was me….

Ref Dexcom support, I started using their online form about 2+ years ago. Some folks have reported the form has been deleted; but it worked for me yesterday and about six months ago. Logged in, on the Dashboard selected “Get Product Support,” accepted the “Severe Adverse Event Waiver,” and filled in the form. There’s a phone number on the “Severe” waiver (may be tech support, not sure as I have tried it). After the “severe” waiver, I’ve just filled in the form (except for the short chat ref Dash pods not being listed). I’ve received a phone call once (about a year ago?) from customer service/tech support asking questions (I think it was where inserted and if I’d taken acetamenophen), and received replacement each time. That said, I request replacements relatively infrequently (grossly inaccurate, 40-50 pts despite corrections, checked with a meter, multiple “wait upto 3 hours” messages, obvious failure with a code, or straight-line lows conflicting with at least two meter readings several minutes apart).

I think some of the pictures, maybe all of them, that I saw were on TUD (there weren’t many the first time this emerged - only one person reported it). I did a Google Artificial Idiot (GAI) with this phrase:

> Dexcom G7 gooseneck before insertion picture

That gave me a whole load of pictures mostly of the goosenecked sensor after insertion, however this Reddit from r/Dexcom has a picture of the failure before insertion:

> **[Google Image Result for...](https://www.google.com/imgres?q=Dexcom%20G7%20gooseneck%20before%20insertion%20picture&imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fgooseneck-convo-with-tech-support-v0-b8hjjc3qwfse1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D259%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D7d99559768f00fb802a1181da04f79c0c060d80e&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2Fr%2Fdexcom%2Fcomments%2F1jpntp5%2Fgooseneck_convo_with_tech_support%2F&docid=CT6VNT83nxQ9KM&tbnid=SPXcWt4BdrA9HM&vet=12ahUKEwiK1IT4yOKWAxWMMTQIHeEuMjAQnPAOegQIQhAA..i&w=259&h=247&hcb=2&ved=2ahUKEwiK1IT4yOKWAxWMMTQIHeEuMjAQnPAOegQIQhAA)**

Here’s the Reddit thread:

https://embed.reddit.com/r/dexcom/comments/1jpntp5/gooseneck_convo_with_tech_support/?embed=true&ref_source=embed&ref=share

The specific post is, ATM here:

@drrps3 you should check out the comments in the Reddit thread above that 'photo. Every manufacturer of stuff like this makes mistakes, whether it’s leaving a bit out of the assembly (that’s my first guess for @CarlosLuis 's failures) or just out-of-alignment machinery on the line. They have to be dealt with. Dexcom has a way to go. Insulet seems to be better but, I admit, it sure hurt Insulet’s share price when they 'fessed up.

There are two other images on my first link to separate Reddit threads (I believe).

One of the referenced threads here on FUD includes a couple of goosenecked transmitters but not the pre-gooseneck inserter.

I **have** taken to eyeballing every single G7 inserter before I do the insertion; it’s got so I do it automatically. The gooseneck problem emerged at least 3 years ago, it might have been pre-COVID. I just lower my glasses (my prescription is -9D) and look at it. People not as short sighted as I am might benefit from a magnifying glass or the “macro” setting on the mobile.
